Stayed overnight with colleagues. The surrounding area is impressive, good car parking arrangements. Lobby area is efficient and all staff were welcoming. Room was large, comfortable and well equipped. The bathroom was great, high pressure shower and good temperature. The cooked breakfast was just adequate. The fresh fruit offering was lacking a bit, half peaches and pears from a tin isn't really good enough. We had to order coffee and twice and it didn't arrive until after we finished eating breakfast, the toast didn't arrive at all! Overall it was fine but I've had better breakfasts in hotels of a similar standard. Didn't have dinner but enjoyed a few drinks in the plush, well stocked bar. Would definitely stay again if needed a place to stay in Newcastle.

Awesome old-world feel, what with its imposing stone walls, but it's hugely comfortable with friendly and efficient staff. A few of the fittings are a little care-worn, eg a small stain on the bath, no biggie. Most notably, the restaurant is superb - the eggs Benedict from the breakfast menu was the best I've ever had. Over all, a great experience with only a couple of minor blemishes.

Great hotel. Good location, just 7 min from the main station. Nice bar and good breakfast options.

This is an old hotel that has been really well looked after and maintained. Upon on arrival a chap came out and met us at our car, gave us a ticket and offered to park it for us (wasn't expecting that) nice touch. The room wasn't ready so we left our bags and returned later for the room keys. We were on the 10th floor and had a great view over to Gateshead. The hotel is built on the steep quayside, so when you come in you are actually already on level 6. You can go down to level 1 which goes out to a nice beer garden of a bar down stairs, (it also means you don't have to walk down the steep hill to the quayside). The room was immaculate, had loads of storage and hanging space for clothes and a nice large bathroom. Really enjoyed the stay here and will be coming back again, the only thing I would prefer would have been air con in the room, it was a bit warm for me, but I am always hot to be fair.

Went for mothers day today. Quality of food was shocking (a few sandwiches and cakes - not even high quality) Welcome staff were poor and left us standing. Servicing staff fine however. For the price (£30 per head) for afternoon tea I would expect a lot better. Very disappointed especially considering the reputation.
