Incredible hotel with so much to offer. The service was beyond excellent such a warm friendly team. Room was spotlessly cleaned and beds were really comfortable. Breakfast was tasty with a large variety available from buffet style to fresh orders. The hotel is in close proximity to all bars, restaurants and shopping. The views from our room was beautiful but the best view was from the roof top bar Above. We cannot wait to return
Outdated rooms, bugs in the bed, BOILING HOT, noisynnAlthough yes, the hotel itself and the bars are very luxurious, we quickly realised that this luxury stopped as soon as we got to our room.nnRoom Temperature / No Air ConditioningnnFirst off, it was absolutely boiling hot in the room!!! We then realised there was no air conditioning — something I find completely unacceptable, as even the most budget hotels provide this. For a hotel marketed as “premium,” the idea of having to check whether there’s air con is baffling. Instead, the room was equipped with a desk fan that looked like it was from the 1970s. And appliances that were emitting crazy amounts of heat.nnNoise from Kitchen VentnnTo make matters worse, the room was located near a kitchen vent. Even with the window closed, it was incredibly loud all day until around 11:30pm, and it started up again from about 6am. Having the window open made it even worse.nnBugs in the BednnIt then got worse again — when I pulled back the sheets from the bed, a bug crawled out. This happened not just once, but again when I moved the pillows.nnPoor Response from StaffnnWe called to try and change rooms, but this wasn’t possible. When we mentioned this again at checkout, we were simply told that we should have requested a “quiet room.” I’m not sure how I was supposed to know that I’d been assigned a room directly next to a kitchen extractor vent.nnMini Fridge HazardnnWhen I went to check the mini fridge to put a bottle of water inside, I found that it was giving off a ridiculous amount of heat — more like an oven than a fridge. Honestly, it felt like a fire hazard. Needless to say, it wasn’t keeping anything cold inside.nnOverall QualitynnThe beds were uncomfortable, the shower looked like it was fitted in the late 90s, and overall it was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing stay.nnI have emailed this over to them…. And they have completely ignored it
Noisy, outdated Presidential Suite because of dance floor above and loud train noise in castle view rooms!nnWe booked a weekend stay for a wedding at a nearby venue, reserving the Presidential Suite nearly a year in advance.nnCheck-in Disaster:nUpon arrival, I was told I hadn’t prepaid and they put a £700 hold on my card, including a £50 deposit more on this later!.nWe were then informed there was a wedding party directly above us, so we should expect loud noise late into the night—this for the most expensive room in the hotel!nnFirst Impressions of the Suite:nAt 4pm, we could already hear booming music and high heels clattering overhead.nThe room itself is far from presidential—clearly 10+ years overdue for a refurbishment.nThe “welcome cake” for our anniversary was left uncovered and crawling with fruit flies. Disgusting.nnNoise & Room Swap:nThe noise was unbearable, so we returned to reception. Credit where due: the reception staff were helpful.nWe accepted a Castle View Double instead, as we had dinner plans and no time to find another hotel.nI was promised a £200 refund for the downgrade… which has never arrived, despite three unanswered emails.nnThe castle view room is just meters from TWO railway tracks. Trains woke us up early both mornings.nnPayment Mess:nIt turns out I HAD paid in advance, but it wasn’t showing in their system.nI had to dig up last year’s bank statements to prove it.nThe receptionist eventually fixed this issue, but the £200 refund remains outstanding from downgrade.nnOverall Verdict:nOld, shabby, and poorly managed.nNoisy. Felt like a party hotel not a luxury city centre venue.nCustomer service ignores follow-ups.n£200 refund still missing.nnThere are far better, cleaner, and more modern hotels in Newcastle. Avoid this one.
Lovely hotel in great location. Nothing to much of a problem for staff who give excellent service. With the NHS/Bluelight card discount, a stay at this higher standard hotel is often as cheap or cheaper than many of the other city centre hotels, including Premier Inn/Travelodge hence why we always look at The Vermont as a first choice
Very nice hotel in Newcastle. It is wonderfully located just a couple of blocks from the quayside and the waterfront and an easy walk to the center of the old town. It is less than 100 feet from the ancient castle for which the city gets its name. In the picture taken from the castle parapet, you can see the hotel in the lower left as well as some of the famous bridges. Service was great. The only downsides to the rooms is that they aren't air conditioned. 99% of the time that isn't likely problem, but we visited during an August heat wave. They provided fans, but it was barely enough. The hotel room we stayed in was very quiet. We would certainly go back.
