Got a great late deal for a Saturday night stay in a standard double room and everything was excellent. The room was large and very clean. Equipped with a mini fridge, room safe and an internet enabled TV the room was great. Breakfast was a standard buffet served by very polite staff. Great view from our room too.

Afternoon tea was truly awful. I encourage management to look at the 'offering' as I feel it reflects on the hotel. It was more like a children's tea party- no style, flair or finesse. Basic sandwiches and whoever made the scones and cakes can't bake !!! - FABULOUS setting - such a shame I will never return as if they can't manage afternoon tea I will not waste my time going for a meal

Went for the gin and tonic afternoon tea. Was pleased the sandwiches had normal fillings (ham, egg, cheese, tuna). The cream for the scones was delicious. The other sweet things were nice but I've had nicer elsewhere. The drinks were excellent, could tell it was quality gin. The environment was very pleasant and warm- quite the contrast to watching the snow fall on the riverside. I would definitely return if the wowcher offer was on again.

Lovely warm comfy room, Restaurant excellent although a little expensive. Fabulous aspects to the room which overlooked The River Tyne. Lots of places of interest to visit within walking distance. A really enjoyable stay, we may return. God Bless

To summarize quickly I would stay here again. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good quality. Generally the hotel is nicely kept and spacious. It's one of the quietest stays I have had in any hotel for a very long time. Bed very comfy and view of the Tyne is amazing. The entrance does not look like you would expect from the street, but cleverly all the rooms face the river. Downsides...steep set of steps to get back upto the town in all directions. Rooms look a little dated in decor but everything worked. Air con / heating little noisy. We stayed during one of the coldest weekends of the year and the large glazed windows felt draughty. Hot water on Saturday morning was hard to get at 9:30, but at all other times it was fine.
