The hotel staff, although very few, were very helpful. We were advised on arrival there was no kitchen and therefore could not even have breakfast in the hotel. I wish we had known before, because we paid far too much for room only. This said the location is amazing, with sea view. The bed was really comfy! The facilities, very compact. I had to open the door to get off the toilet! Lol. Bright side is weather was glorious and so much to see and do. Didn't stop walking. Refund happily accepted for lack of facilities.
Doesn’t even deserve 1 star. The worst experience and staff. I booked a room for 22nd October 2022 but when I arrived, there was a man sitting at a desk by the entrance refusing our stay despite people coming in and out of the hotel. They handed us a number to call The hotel number and all they did was cut the phone on me. I then had to find a last minute room at one of the other hotels along the seafront. They told us that the Strand is being used to house refugees but are still taking bookings and have been refusing people who turn up for their booking and refusing refunds. I still haven’t been able to get through to the hotel properly. The staff at the door were rude and the man I spoke to on the phone was even ruder and dropped the call once I mentioned that I wanted a refund.
Firstly, front of house staff are very friendly, Roberto in particular was a delight and an absolute asset to the team. The rooms are worth the money you are paying, small and a touch run-down but overall a pleasent place to stay. I would however, be careful of the £100 deposit for damages. Make sure you take pictures and report any defects immediately to front of house staff to avoid such charges. I for example had a faulty kettle and shower in my room which I would have been charged for had I not reported them. Overall 4/5 stars for my stay and experience, heavily boosted by the team of staff. P. S - Super cheap alcohol so make sure you use the bar!
I had a sea view room and the view was absolutely amazing. There was scaffolding up though so this spoilt it a little bit and the outside windows were dirty. The bed was comfortable so that was good. There is a sign in the bathroom saying you need to request a hairdryer at reception. I was given one that didn't work so then had to go down and get another one. The receptionist didn't have a hairdryer that worked. Said she would look for one and I should wait in the room but she never showed up. Should have just come up and say she didn't have one. The bed was comfortable but the first night I could hear the music coming from reception in the morning as it was so loud so couldn't get back to sleep. Didn't hear it the second morning so slept better. The location is amazing!
I paid for superior room. This room 27 was far from superior. We had to go into the toilet sideways as there was no room. If you wanted to pull on your underwear, you hit your head on the sink. The toilet was no bigger than a cupboard fitted into an alcove. The shower was much the same. Get undressed before going into the shower as you couldn't get undressed in the alcove. No lift in this hotel. Dead flies on window sills. No breakfast. I tried ringing down to reception to complain but the phone didn't have a connection. It was just an ornament. The windows did not open. All in all a disgrace of a hotel. The view was excellent but that wasn't a plus for the hotel that was a plus for Eastbourne
DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL, WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!! Where to begin, my friends and I stayed at The Strand Hotel for a weekend get away, we did a late check in as we walked all the way from Seaford to Eastbourne. We had 2 rooms as we were 5, the room with 3 beds didn’t have water whatsoever not even to flush the loo!! And the room with 2 beds didn’t have any hot water. When we did the check in, the woman at the reception didn’t tell us anything about these issues, we found out by ourselves. When we complained at reception, they told us that they knew about these issues since midday, so I wonder WHY they didn’t say anything at the moment of check-in? We were really tired and the only thing we wanted was to take a shower and rest. So after about 45 min of complaining one the employees told us that we could shower in a completely different room and on a different floor but that we had to sleep in the rooms that they gave us at the beginning! Unfortunately we didn’t have anywhere else to stay as we could not find any other hotel near by. Next day we wanted to make a complaint and speak with the manager we had a terrible night going to the loo in the middle of the night to a completely different room anyway he or she wasn’t there at the time and never came. We spoke with SOMEONE when I say someone we thought it was the manager on the phone, as we wanted our money back but what we got instead was two rude and very unpleasant and unprofessional people, first with a woman who didn’t really care and was making excuses and then she passed the phone over to a terrible, aggressive and rude man, he was shouting at us and making us feel really bad, I guess he was being like that because we were all women. I really hope we can get our money back and people out there are aware of our awful experience at this hotel.
The public areas of the hotel are in pretty good condition. I was happy with the choice and quality of the food available for breakfast, although the sausages were rather bland. I had a room with a sea view on the first floor. The bed was huge and comfortable. The toilet and shower facilities were rather poor. The toilet was in a small cupboard with only just enough room to turn around and sit. The shower room was only one slightly larger. The only basin was in the shower room. All the staff I met were polite, friendly and helpful. I think that the building is in need of some modernisation to improve the guest experience. I would certainly like to see the toilet in the same room as the shower and wash basin, or maybe a small basin in the same room as the toilet. Taking everything into account, I had a pleasant stay here and would just like to see the hotel spend some time and money upgrading the rooms.
Friendly staff and fair price for a weekend stay. Facilities are basic and a bit dated but we got everything we needed. Our initial room was too hot due to service pipes but they happily moved us. They also provided a fan and baby cot on request. The hotel is right on the seafront a stones throw from pier and beautiful sea views. Would stay again.
The room was in need of new carpet and one of the mattresses in the twin room was very dirty yet the other one appeared new, the room we were in could do with a curtain on the bathroom window although it was frosted glass. The food was okay, some of it was very good and the service in the restaurant was good, the team worked very hard to service a full room averaging about one server to twenty-five people. Reception and Bar teams were friendly and helpful although the Bar was sometimes understaffed. As for the location one could not ask for more we booked through Just Go Holidays and requested a sea view if possible, they said it could not be guaranteed, but the hotel did provide it and it was very much appreciated, though the road noise was noticeable, but that is the nature of a sea view room in Eastbourne. The lobby and Bar areas have been updated to a good specification and hopefully they will update more of the rooms, some people said there rooms had been updated and were okay others said the bathrooms were a bit small. For the price we paid the overall holiday was good value, the room could have been cleaner. SECOND VISIT, September 2013 Can not fault the hotel team, all make a very good effort to ensure customers enjoy their visit and are well looked after. The food is good but the rooms could do with a better vacuuming this is my second visit. The bar/lounge area is very modern and the hotel has very comfortable chairs to sit, relax, enjoy your drink and look out to sea. Still renovating… a big job for an elderly building but it did not interfere with our visit.
Not impressed at all. We were told we were being moved "due to unforeseen circumstances" along with a lot of other people. No explanation was given but it looked like the rooms were being given to the homeless funded by council . Besides this our room was tiny with a view of broken pipes and ladders behind the building. Room was basic and clean but very dated. A poorly fit sliding door separated the toilet/shower from the sleeping area. Very cramped. Lift was out of order so a bit of a trek up the narrow stairs if disabled/elderly. We did get moved to the Glastonbury Hotel which was a huge bonus ! In comparison to the Strand Hotel the, the Glastonbury was gorgeous !
