Stockwell… well, let’s just say it’s not my favourite. Compared to the charm of the other Northern line stations nearby, it feels pretty grim and utilitarian. The only real upside is that you can change onto the Victoria line here, which is handy if you’re heading north or south quickly without going into central London.
I've got a sence from the history on the Victoria line that is was a game changer for London when it was fully opened in 1971.nPeople could travel from north east london to south in half the time than on the northern line.nWe've experienced this recently again with the Elizabeth line.nWe have a transport system to be proud of.
The station provides access to two fast and regular tube lines, the Victoria Line and the Northern Line. The interchange between the two is short and getting down to platform level is quick. The area around Stockwell is quite picturesque, especially the war memorial. However be careful leaving your bike locked up outside as crims can strip it for parts.
There are 270 stations on London’s underground system and here find one that makes up the number.nUnusual platform benches here .nPerhaps recalled as the scene of an unfortunate incident in 2005, commemorated by a mosaic at the station entrance.
Very disappointed at the ‘staff’ in this station. We came in here 2 people with 5 suitcases - not heavy but too much to go down the escalator with them. We mistakenly thought there was a lift. When we asked, the FIVE MEMBERS OF STAFF STOOD IN AND AROUND THE ASSISTANCE BOX just looked at us and said ‘no’ when we asked if there’s a lift or help to get down to the platform. They literally all turned back around and went back to laughing and joking together. Not one of them with their eyes on the barriers where people were just jumping over without paying. Not one thought to offer help when they were all five doing NOTHING. Unbelievable- sadly London has no sense of care or community anymore. I wish I got paid to chat with my mates. TFL has become a joke.
