This is one of my local train stations and safe to say there is absolutely nothing special here. It's a simple two platform station which has south western railway service to London Waterloo, Wimbledon and reading and Windsor.nnThe station has quite long platforms which is good because it means that the trains can fit and people don't have to move to upper carriages to get out of the train. In addition it doesn't get too crowded due to mortlake being quite a silent and peaceful area in general. However, train times are extremely slow even though it's in zone 3 and two stops away from zone 2. Trains come on average every half an hour which can be quite painful and there are always train strikes.nnHowever, the station has a nice ticket booth with really friendly staff and functioning machines to buy tickets. The station lacks barriers which means that not many people pay for their fares here and noone seems to do anything about it. There Is also a nice shop which sells sweets and drinks on the platform with trains going towards London waterloo even though it's quite overpriced and the station has a plethora of benches across the two platforms for people to rest their cheeks on.
Mortlake Station is served by Southwestern trains the two platforms are long for 10 car trains. There is no ticket barriers here and no staff was around when I came here. The station has disabled access on both sides with the entrances having no steps. However if you need to get to either platform you can walk over the footbridge which has stairs or walk through the level crossing outside the station. The station was clean and tidy and is very basic.
Simple, but surprisingly busy at times, local train station with a polite gentleman working the ticket office!nnYou'll get congestion when queuing to tap off during busy hours, but that's to be expected.nnOther than that, be wary of the level crossing, especially when getting to the opposite platform.
I feel that there are both positives and negatives about this station.nPositives are that there is probably the friendliest and most helpful ticket officer in the world here, and also due to the fact that there are shops that are relatively easy to get to if you're staying nearby and need things to eat or drink. The one main negative is that trains on this branch are only every 30 minutes in each direction, so if you've just missed a train, you've got a long time to wait for the next one to arrive.
Small, some one off shops, but also larger stores . Too many Barbers and lots of charity shops . Nice to browse .
