Without the hectic bustle of Euston, charming Marylebone is London's quieter gateway to the Midlands. Who needs HS2 when you can get Advance tickets from Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street an equally lovely old station from just £6.40?nnAllow plenty of time if your train departs from platforms 5 or 6. They're a long walk down the full length of platform 4.
I'm not entirely sure why this train station wasn't appealing to me. Plenty stations have been renovated and redone to make it look modern and clean. I find this station looks a bit messy, small, the least appealing. I must admit it's my least favourite station in London. While waiting for my train there was a technical fault on their train timetable information on the information screen. Overall it should be renovated to make it look tidy and modern.
It looks modest against the background of other stations. The station where the platforms are open, so it is blowing and cold. There are few directions, and in general nothing special.
Accessible national railway station. The facilities are good free toilets, cash machines and there are a few choices of food outlets. The departure/arrival boards are easy to read also.nThe one thing I don’t like is that pigeons are flying around inside the station. If they could find a way to keep them out then it would be much better. They perch on the seating and generally flap around being a nuisance. When I was there recently, I even saw a man walking around with a hawk sitting on his arm‍.
Staff were looking at their phone when supposedly giving me advice but otherwise the train was on time and clean. Could do with a few more self-service ticket machines. Simple transfer between Underground and overland trains. Lovely big rack...for bikes of course and pay per use toilets onsite. Not bad.
