King's Cross

Story

King's Cross railway station is a major London railway terminus, opened in 1852. It is on the northern edge of central London, at the junction of Euston Road and York Way, in the London Borough of Camden on the boundary with the London Borough of Islington. It is one of 19 stations managed by Network Rail.King's Cross station is the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line, one of Britain's major railway backbones providing high speed inter-city services to destinations in Yorkshire, the North East and northern and eastern Scotland. East Coast is the main inter-city operator and its most important long-distance destinations are Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Other inter-city operators serving the station include First Hull Trains and Grand Central.King's Cross is also a London terminus for Great Northern which provides commuter services to areas of North London and outer-suburban/regional services to Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire including fast regional services to Peterborough, Cambridge and King's Lynn.

Spectacular mix of historic Victorian grandeur and futuristic engineering. It’s one of London’s busiest gateways, but visually, it is an absolute masterpiece.nRight alongside that modern design sits the original, grand 1852 brick building. The station perfectly preserves the early railway travel with its massive arched train sheds and classic clock tower.nThe station is also the ultimate pilgrimage for Harry Potter fans. Finding the famous luggage trolley disappearing straight into the solid brick wall at a Platform 9/3-4 brings a wonderful dash of magic to the bustling station chaos.
Cool train station. Very busy, and out of the 4 times I grabbed a train here, it was on time. There was a lady making announcements in the crowds waiting for their trains. She was thoughtful and precise, and I appreciate her efforts. Keep an eye out for your platforms and be prepared to hustle. I dropped larger suitcases in the luggage racks by the exits of each car, and carry-on cases went in racks above our seats, while personal items went under the seat. Packed my own food each time. Took LNER and Lumo to Edinburgh and back.

What used to feel like just a busy transit point has completely evolved into a vibrant, happening destination in its own right.nnThe standout for me is Coal Drops Yard—such a unique and beautifully designed space. The blend of historic industrial architecture with modern shops, cafes, and open spaces gives it a really distinctive character. It’s lively without being overwhelming, and there’s always something going on.nnThe whole area now feels polished, safe, and full of energy, whether you’re there during the day or in the evening. From food spots to riverside walks and the buzz around Granary Square, it’s genuinely become one of London’s coolest hangout spots.nnA massive glow-up—King’s Cross is no longer just somewhere you pass through, it’s somewhere you actually want to spend time in.
I love visiting London Kings Cross station because I get to see my favourite LNER trains, we were even treated today to a unique sighting of a 225!.
Good Station but very expensive tickets and, as per LNER policy, extremely limited flexibility for passengers facing unexpected situations. There appears to be little or no support or understanding for essential workers in the UK, including doctors, nurses, and police officers, even when genuine emergencies arise. Policies are applied rigidly without considering individual circumstances, often forcing passengers to purchase entirely new tickets at full price for the same journey. At times, it feels as though there is more flexibility and consideration shown toward pets travelling on the railway than toward the people working to keep the country running.
