The hotel is very nice. The room was large and had a great view. The bed was comfortable. Robes, slippers, heated towel rack. Shower and bath worked well with great hot water service. The bar is beautifully fit out and a nice place to sit if you need to do some work and want to get out of the room or want a quiet drink. The staff are friendly and professional.
I recently went here for afternoon tea, what a disappointment the furniture was tired and needed a refurb so first impressions not good the view was lovely from our table can’t fault that, 35 minutes after ordering we got our tea and coffee, coffee was lovely the tea was in a bigger pot but unfortunately was stewed. Now we go for afternoon tea to a lot different places and never had one like thisnNo sandwiches a piece of chicken and a piece of I think beef glazed which tasted fine and a small hamburger all fine but afternoon tea????? The desert we had one toffee flavoured scone tiny then there was a small glass full of squirt cream with old/dried/stale cake sprinkled on the top, a carrot cake which was lovely and an ice lolly and you another small not sure what it was,nBasically very different from the usual afternoon tea more like a brunch all served with dishwasher marked chinanNot the best impression
This was an incredible stay, the staff were so friendly and helpful. We even had a free room upgrade for our anniversary! The only downside was the bedding, it wasn’t the most comfortable which was a shame when everything else was so great!
It’s a nice hotel, but dark which is obviously the theme of the place. They incorrectly told me and my colleague about our breakfast choices stating one of us didn’t have an option for warm food and only continental but this was wrong. Maintenance came in my room believing it to be vacant which was awkward and the room windows are old and poor double glazing and could not sleep well due to early morning noise from outside. There was banging in the next room as well which the hotel didn’t think to let people know just out of courtesy. Breakfast with what was provided was nice and people were friendly and polite.
This hotel is in a good location with good views from the front of the hotel overlooking the river, there are plenty of bars and places to eat nearby plus it's only a few minutes walk into the town centre, the only negatives I would say is the inside of the hotel is very dark even the room we had was also dark, a lot of walls and surfaces are painted black in the reception area you would think it was being powered by the emergency lights it's so dark.nThe room we stayed in was also looking a little tired and could do with some TLC, so not sure if I would stay there again.
