The location is great, about half hour walking distance from the city centre. Also is in-between a couple of retail parks. The fabric of the building is a bit shabby, but the room was clean and tidy. The bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished. A great breakfast was served and the owners were polite and friendly.

If you are looking for value in Durham, then this is a certain contender. The only thing trading off against the price is no en-suite bathrooms, so in my view - not a problem. Although out of the centre of Durham, there is parking (free) and 10 minute bus times or 30/40 minutes walking times to the centre of the city. The hotel has all the normal "niceties" - plenty of clean towels, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, fabulous breakfast (and some cereals, if you want) and definitely the old-fashioned service from the owner. If you want Chanel toiletries in the bathroom, then you'll have to bring your own.

Gilesgatemoor hotel is great for a quick weekend getaway or simply a trip to your local pub. The location is great, as it ours near the centre of Durham, but far enough to make prices cheaper and more affordable. I stayed here for the Lumiere light festival. The staff and usual customers are friendly, although there isn't a 'no smoking inside' rule... The outside looks disappointing for a hotel, but the rooms are clean and are a good size. There are also family rooms, with a double sand 2 singles. The breakfast is good, with a full English breakfast or cereal. They also supply Quorn sausages for vegetarians like myself. Overall, a good budget B&B.

Cheerful & Comfortable For a quick overnight stay this fits the bill. Good bus links into Durham, decent cooked breakfast (no evening meals). Rooms are plain, tho clean & bed very comfortable. Strictly no frills though. Some noise from traffic as near a road, and it is a pub - so can hear the trade. Shared bathroom with excellent shower. Slept well here and it is ideal if travelling on a budget. Staff cheerful and welcoming. A good practical option that's easy on the pocket.

A very warm and friendly welcome. The bedroom clean and comfortable; the separate shower and toilet pristine. The breakfast substantial. The evening group of locals were great to spend time with in the comfortable very typical local pub bar, no frills but with a great atmosphere. Overall a positive stay. Would recommend. Thank you to all at Gilesgate Hotel.
