I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. The hotel has good location but the rooms are very old and the service is below expectation. We spent 3 days without cleaning the room except during the first day of arrival and when we ask to be cleaned they said it is not available. They put for every guest one large towel and one small towel and that is it. Breakfast service is so slow and you feel the people is demotivated and do not want to take extra mile to serve the guest. Breakfast is basics. With a miniature plates for cucumber, tomatoes. Service to money paid is not comparable. They increased the prices during this week as there will be guests coming to support the relatives going to the university for the first time. If you book and pay in advance, they will give you any room. No shower gel and need to ask for new one. No one checking about the quality. It is shame that they are claiming they are Radisson SAS. Next time we will visit Durham, we will try to find a better alternative even if the rates higher than that in this hotel.
Room wasn't ready for check-in. We arrived to be told there was an extra charge for parking at the hotel. £190 per night for a room and parking isnt included!?nBooking stated a king-size bed in the premium rooms, but it was a standard double. Air-conditioning didn't work either.nRoom was clean and tidy though.
We stayed at the Radisson Blu in Durham and had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is beautifully located right by the river, offering stunning views that make the visit feel very special. nnOur room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained – exactly what you would hope for. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed a relaxing evening at the bar with great service.nnBreakfast the next morning was excellent with plenty of tasty options. nnA very good place to stay in Durham – combining comfort, good service, and a beautiful riverside location.
Stayed at this hotel twice this year and the fact my wife and I returned says a lot. It is well located. The service is good. The rooms a good size and in good order. The rooms are clear and with plenty of light. Not so sure 2 beds pushed together worked as it left a bit of a gap in the middle. Good spa. Nice coffee at the bar. This is a good hotel. Would stay there again.
I’ve given the hotel 2 stars purely for the lady on reception when I checked in and her manager at the time.nnArrived at the hotel and was hit with a £14 parking charge. At this price point, that’s not acceptable. I stay away 4 nights a week and most places offer free parking, or if they don’t own the car park you just enter your reg and that’s it.nnMy first room was dire: awful red décor, no underlay, and a bed barely 2 ft off the floor with a 4-inch mattress. Straight back down to ask for a move.nnThere was a long wait as only one person was handling check-ins. The lady on reception was excellent and offered me a room change, handled by I presume her boss. I was given an “upgrade” to room 321, apparently renovated. The room is still basic—think “tried to make it look good but on the cheap.” The bed doesn’t fill the gap between the side tables or the headboard, the TV is awkwardly off to the left.nnThe real problem was next door’s TV. I could hear it louder in my room than they probably could in theirs. I called down to reception and Johnny, the duty manager, came up. He didn’t bother to check my room, just phoned to say he’d asked them to turn it down. When I asked which room he snapped, “I’m not going to divulge that but I’ve done it.” I told him it was still loud and he replied, “Well, it’s only on 14.” I knocked next door myself and it was quieter in their room than mine. The TV position, lack of insulation and stud walls mean you hear everything.nnAgain, the nice lady from reception to the rescue—moved me again, this time to room 365. No TV noise now, but I could still hear someone using the bathroom, either next door or above.nnBottom line: this hotel is all dressed up to look good but can’t back it up. Rooms are very basic, no fridge even Premier Inn has them, no bottled water, small beds and a ridiculously dated way of setting the room temperature. Some staff are great, but Johnny definitely isn’t one of them—or he was having a terrible day.nnP.S. The wallpaper is so badly matched it makes the room look 30 years old. How hard is it to line up a pattern?nnAlso there is zero underlay unter the carpet, this makes a huge difference.
