We have visited Durham many times since my days as a student, decades ago, and have stayed at many places in the city. Forty Winks is by far the best. Certainly the rooms at the front must have have the best views in the city, matched only by the neighbours. Add to this the sumptuous if rather quirky decor, the warm welcome, and the fantastic breakfast. Book without delay (but not on the dates we want to return! ;) ).

Loved it. We had a fantastic view of the cathedral and the room was wonderful. Great breakfast and welcoming host. Would thoroughly recommend.

Stayed there on business and it was just fantastic. From the minute I walked in I felt at home. Beautifully decorated, the reception with quirky pieces of furniture and animals. My room overlooked Durham Cathedral which was a stunning and just fantastic. Loved the bathroom, amazing bath and Molton Brown products added a nice touch. Quiet area and had a brilliant sleep. The owner is lovely and breakfast there was a great selection. I was loathed to leave!! Thank you so much for a great time and wishing you success for the future. Pamela

a beautiful place to stay.. gorgeous rooms. amazing views over to the Cathedral. lovely staff. make you feel at home and very comfortable. a top tip for staying in Durham
