This used to be one of my favourite drinking spots when I was a student in Durham. It's had a lick of paint and a redesign since and, for me at least, lost some of its charm. That said, it's still welcoming and does a good pint, with a range of food. Well worth a look.

Whilst our stay was very brief it is my impression that The City is making great strides. I understand that it was closed for a period of time and the current owners are making great strides in "bettering" the business. Certainly the room (no 3) we occupied had little to provoke complaint although my wife was a little disappointed that there was no hairdryer. The room was clean and comfortable as was the en-suite facility. A good choice of well prepared breakfasts was available. All in all a comfortable stay in a functional establishment.

We went on for drinks it was busy but staff serving were quick and friendly. The atmosphere was good

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed it. The room was well furnished, clean and quite big. Breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful. The pub is quiet and a great place to enjoy a good pint (they have Trooper which is a great beer). Negatives? Well the shower was far too low, you would need to be about 4 foot to get under it comfortably! There is no parking, but i think you would struggle to find anywhere in Durham that has parking?
