It’s a hotel. The facilities were clean and useful. The staff was friendly but not terribly helpful. I had to repeatedly ask for basic service like providing towels they took all of our towels and didn’t replace any. On one occasion we came back and found the garbage bag from the entire floor left in our room. Another time, I called for towels in the evening and the guy just let himself in without knocking. He walked in while we were dressing. I ordered room service one night and they never brought it. After 2 hours had to ask for a refund. It wasn’t horrible, and they took care of every complaint eventually, but it felt like a lot of stuff that I should not have needed to complain about for the price. The restaurant food on site was ok but not great. It was hotel food.nnThe bright spot that kept this from being a lower star review was the executive lounge and the staff there esp Sally. They were engaging, polite, and provided great service to value. Also, the pool and locker facilities were well kept, staffed, and clean.
Lovely hotel and spa . Everyone was lovely . Rooms was great. My only qualm was the afternoon tea too much sweet stuff and not enough savoury. No sausage rolls or quiche ect. What I've had at other afternoon teas
Lovely hotel would have been 5 across the board if it wasn’t for the bellend head barman I’m assuming by the rude way he spoke to the other barman. We were supposed to get a free drink per person per night over our 2 night stay due to helping with the sustainability of the hotel and agreeing not to have housekeeping over our stay. On night 2 I tried to redeem our voucher and get us drinks… I was told that the voucher was no longer valid and to get a new voucher from reception… so I did… I ordered us our 2 free drinks and was then told I could only get one drink with this voucher and I had to go back to reception to get another voucher for the other drink. Knob head on a power trip... Oh yeah and he wouldn’t give us warm milk for our 17 month old and sent us to the restaurant because apparently they didn’t have any milk left, judging by the previous 10 minute encounter i would say he just can’t be bothered being helpful to anyone.
As a Platinum member of IHG I was upgraded, and with my lounge pass was able to make use of the lounge on the club floor 6. Sally who served me on my first night was really friendly, knowledgeable and it was evident through my two-three hours in the lounge that a lot of people were returning patrons, given everyone seemed to know her! A couple of photos of the lounge are in the review which is nice enough and has good amenities, although some of the other lounges I've stayed elsewhere in the world have different options and toilets etc, but it was still nice.nnThe room was a good size with a good walk-in shower, and the TV great for accessing apps like YouTube etc. Perhaps a small gripe but on my second night I could hear the couple next door chatting, not what I would expect and as they had just returned at 11pm at night as it did disturb me as I was about to sleep. Location is good, 7-8 minutes walk from station/centre of city, if not a bit dark. I would stay again, however, given the service in the lounge and reception was great, and the rooms nice.
Stayed here for a conference held in the same hotel.nnPros:n- Hotel was close to railway station about 10 mins walk so going on day trips from newcastle was convenient.n- Staff were excellent - friendly with big smiles from the first till the last day!n- Bathroom was spacious, good water pressure and very hot which I liked!n- Breakfast buffet was not extravagant, but enough options to keep us interested. The made-to-order hot meal options were thoughtful.nnCons:n- Instructions for amenities could have been clearer. Was wondering where the toothbrushes / slippers were until I finally called concierge and got those from themn- The gym was small and the equipment was dated, but since quayside was so close I ran outside anyway.
