Savoy Hotel

Story

The Savoy Hotel is a luxury hotel located in the Strand in the City of Westminster in central London, England. Built by the impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte with profits from his Gilbert and Sullivan opera productions, it opened on 6 August 1889. It was the first in the Savoy group of hotels and restaurants owned by Carte's family for over a century. The Savoy was the first luxury hotel in Britain, introducing electric lights throughout the building, electric lifts, bathrooms in most of the lavishly furnished rooms, constant hot and cold running water and many other innovations. Carte hired César Ritz as manager and Auguste Escoffier as chef de cuisine; they established an unprecedented standard of quality in hotel service, entertainment and elegant dining, attracting royalty and other rich and powerful guests and diners. The hotel became Carte's most successful venture. Its bands, Savoy Orpheans and the Savoy Havana Band, became famous, and other entertainers (who were also often guests) included George Gershwin, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne and Noël Coward. Other famous guests have included Edward VII, Oscar Wilde, Enrico Caruso, Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth, Harry Truman, Joan Crawford, Judy Garland, John Wayne, Laurence Olivier, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Bette Midler, The Beatles and many others. Winston Churchill often took his cabinet to lunch at the hotel.

I went for the afternoon High Tea. I couldn't be happier with my choice. The place is just absolutely gorgeous, I was greeted with such a warm smile from every staff member. I made this trip to London to celebrate my birthday. I was doing a solo trip. It was such a lovely surprise when they presented me with a plate decorated with happy birthday wishes, and a candle on top of a little chocolate cake. So, elegant. Celebrating solo was a great experience at the Savoy. Thank you all staff for your kindness towards me. I will never forget this birthday celebration.
I had an absolutely delightful stay at The Savoy Hotel on the Strand last night. From the moment I arrived, I was treated like royalty. The entrance alone, with its famous Art Deco design and opulent lobby, set the tone for what was an incredible experience. The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive and professional at every turn. My room, styled in a mix of Edwardian and Art Deco, was luxurious and comfortable with a stunning view of the Thames. The amenities were first-class, and the marble bathroom was a particular highlight with its premium toiletries and deep soaking tub. I also had dinner at the Savoy Grill, and the meal was exquisite. It’s easy to see why this Gordon Ramsay restaurant is so well-regarded. Later in the evening, I enjoyed a drink at the American Bar, which truly lives up to its reputation as one of the best cocktail bars in the world. Overall, The Savoy is a perfect blend of history and modern luxury. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s an experience. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting London.
The service was excellent. However, the quality of the cakes served during our afternoon tea was disappointing. Additionally, the redesign of the lounge has negatively impacted the overall experience, creating a cramped and congested atmosphere. I observed an individual in a wheelchair encountering significant difficulty while attempting to exit the lounge. Considering the extensive renovation work undertaken, it would have been beneficial to incorporate accessibility features such as a lift to cater to individuals with mobility challenges.
The Savoy is the epitome of elegance and sophistication, offering a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of London. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with impeccable service and a sense of history that few establishments can match. The rooms and suites are beautifully designed, blending classic charm with modern comfort. Every detail, from the plush furnishings to the high-quality amenities, is thoughtfully curated to ensure a luxurious stay. The views of the Thames from some rooms are breathtaking and add to the overall charm.
Impeccable service from doorman to butler to High Tea service. Jewelry store to n house if you need a piece for a special event. In room dining is always a treat and comes with a surprise. Located on n the Thames and a beautiful stroll can be had. Shopping just outside the drive. I long to return. 4 minutes bite walk to Charing Cross Trains to everywhere.
We treated ourselves to a weekend at this stunning hotel, it is everything that you expect it to be. Every member of staff we encountered was so professional and helpful. The cocktails in both The American Bar and Bar 1890 we're the best we'd ever had. The River Restaurant was such a fantastic experience, the beef wellington being the highlight! Our room was spotless and beyond comfortable, we had a view of the Thames and the iconic London skyline. An amazing experience from checking in to checking out!
We had a wonderful time with an overnight stay on the 5th floor. It was amazing and a real treat! The staff are friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The renovations are beautiful and the hotel still has its art deco charm. We also used the spa and was very relaxing a great way to refresh before going out on the town. We had a wonderful breakfast in the Gordon Ramsey River Restaurant with excellent service and was cooked to perfection.
Delightful experience ! I had a very nice time coming here first thing Saturday morning to the opening of the Florist at the Savoy. The florist team & Franck were very kind and helpful & lovely to see them. They helped me pick all the Roses I liked & my girlfriend was so happy to receive them when I arrived at hers. Thank you for providing a top service & being so kind to me. I really appreciate it & will be back. : Kind regards Matt. IG: _matty_k_
Didn't stay at the hotel but had a few drinks at the bar after a show. It's a lovely bar area, good ambience, and there was a piano player. The cocktails were enjoyable and our waiter was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our fairly short visit!Service: 5/5
We wanted to have afternoon tea at the Savoy but unfortunately, they were fully booked since we didn’t make a reservation. We just wanted to try our luck! I have to say, the place is absolutely stunning inside. Since it was a bit too cold that day, we decided to head to the bar, where we sat down for some tea and cookies. It was a cozy alternative, but I highly recommend booking in advance if you’re set on experiencing the full afternoon tea at the Savoy. When I tried to book it, it was already too late for us. We’re definitely looking forward to staying there on our next trip. The service was amazing, and the whole atmosphere was so relaxing. If you can, I highly recommend staying at the Savoy or at least reserving a spot for afternoon tea well ahead of time! Safety: The area felt incredibly safe, with plenty of tourists around and so much to see. Food & drinks: The tea was great along with the amazing cookie we ordered.
