Just completed a two week stay at The Priory Hospital. While the accommodation is adequate anyone coming here should really be more focused on the Therapy side and how the Hospital can help them mentally get to where they want to be. I personally have found the group therapy sessions incredibly helpful. But you have to want these to work to get the most out of them, it is down to the individual to not only attend but engage, listen and learn. After two weeks of attending all the sessions I considered relevant I know I’m not 100% better but I have now the knowledge, motivation and a tool box to ensure I get to where I want to be. On coming here I had totally lost touch with what my beliefs and values were, the type of person I want to be and what makes me happy. These sessions have helped me re-establish the beliefs and values and given me a plan for the future which looks good. In addition to the group sessions I have had 1:1’s with my allotted therapist and 1:1’s with psychiatrist again these have been very helpful especially identifying specific issues and how to address them. On the ward the nursing staff are great. Very friendly and relaxed while remaining professional. It can be a stressful time in this type of hospital but the ward staff make you feel at home and are always there to listen. So like most things if you put the effort in and engage you get the most out.
Excellent Narcotics Anonymous meeting open to recovering addicts in the chapel every Saturday in the beautiful surroundings of the Chapel at midday.
This facility is amazing - everything from the wonderful staff and nurses through to the cleanliness, group therapy sessions and other patients. I have only positive reflections from across my time at The Priory. It has helped me rediscover an inner shine and self-worth which was lost for a lengthy period of time, while enabling me to learn useful coping strategies and safe mechanisms to deal with the ups and downs life inevitably throws our way. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone. My time specifically on Garden Wing was great; the whole nursing team made me feel instantly very welcome, safe and cared for. Overall, a wonderful service.
Jackie & Thelma, both extremely welcoming and accommodating on arrival at reception. A team there! I attend the internal and open evening meetings for CA & AA - always happy to help me with additional water and treats for the residents and external visitors to the evening fellowship meetings. Non judgmental and helps put newcomers and old timers like me at ease each night I attend and do service at a number of meetings weekly. Thank you for your kindness and the delicious cup cakes you hand make for us! Wouldn’t be the same without you both
I was incredibly apprehensive and anxious about becoming an inpatient at the priory Roehampton. The protocols seem very stringent initially and this is for your own safety. By them trusting you and you trusting them, slowly certain belongings are given back to you. Trust is key! Trust in the process, trust your Psychiatrist and trust your ward staff. They are there to ensure you feel comfortable and safe. I was an inpatient for 5 weeks. The level of safety and security, the care and attention that the staff offer is unparalleled. They have already turned me from a shaking wreck to someone who is more trusting of the people around me - which I never thought possible. Meds have been looked at and changed to ensure the anxiety has been diminished without compromising the 121 and group therapy sessions. Every day, ward members check in on you and encourage you to go to the group therapies.nnThe trust, respect and gratitude I have for my Psychiatrist Dr.Stallard is unequalled, he has a genuine need to assist me on my journey of recovery, not only is he a fantastic Psychiatrist, but a fantastic clinician, he is warm, friendly and compassionate. He listens to you, the patient, and works with you to formulate a care plan tailored specifically to you. There are no preconceived notions or ideas here, you come in and they assess you as an individual. You are respected and treated with the utmost dignity. Staff are polite and courteous, as well as being down to earth and human too. Every single person I have encountered from the wonderful housekeeping staff Oomi right up to the Psychiatrists - specifically my Psychiatrist Dr Stallard and above are simply a delight to be with.nnFood can vary from Ward to Ward but upper court the food is very tasty and every dish I have tried has been delicious.nnIf you are unable to leave the grounds for medical purposes, then you can order from Amazon - but the contents will be checked by staff before you are allowed access to the purchase.nnThe grounds and patients have all been delightful, and despite us all having different issues, we tend to congregate to discuss the day as we can help each other understand certain aspects that we may have missed or misinterpreted.nnIf you get the chance to come to the priory as an inpatient then it is beyond anything I could recommend and certainly worth the experience as well as helping you deal with whatever issues you are trying to gain help with or for grounding techniques to help you cope.nnHighly recommended! I commend and congratulate the Priory and the staff for their dedication to assisting my recovery! I cannot thank you enough.nnFinally, a massive thank you to the ward staff of Upper Court, Oomi the superb 5* housekeeper, the HCAs, the nursing staff, Ward Manager and Ward Doctor Dr Thomas for their unreserved friendliness, support, professionalism and unwavering dedication to the health and safety of my stay - you are all superb. I have felt listened to, understood, respected and cared for above and beyond what I could have ever expected. A MASSIVE THANK YOU!!
