Simply superb We visited here twice for an evening meal whilst staying at the caravan club site just outside the village. A very welcoming pub, lovely atmosphere with exceptional ales to choose from. Our 2 dogs were made welcome with a little offering of small ham chunks nice touch We had a cracking meal both times with reasonable prices. Highly recommended.
We arrived at about 6.30pm and it was busy but we managed to find a table for us and our two dogs in the corner. It was a special evening for us so we chose a starter of mushrooms cooked in a creamy garlic sauce, the innkeepers plate pie and Bakewell tart for pudding. It was delicious. The main course had a choice of sides so I went with the mash and seasonal vegetables which were cooked to perfection and my husband opted for chips and peas. The dessert had a choice of cream ice cream or custard. There was plenty of time between courses, the service was good, the pub has a lovely ambience and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We would definitely recommend a meal at this pub. Good value too!
We’ve just had a brilliant meal here. Generous servings of freshly prepared fish and chips for the kids, delicious homemade beef, bacon and black pudding pie with soft salty chips so good and the most perfect Ploughman’s platter with warm crusty homemade bread, gorgeous warm ham off the bone, tangy Stilton and creamy cheddar. Desserts included homemade waffles with brown sugar and cinnamon, chocolate sauce and vanilla icecream, and a hot gooey chocolate brownie. With 2 rounds of drinks £85. Brilliant service too. Can’t recommend more highly!
A couple of visits, excellent local real ale. Good food inn keepers pie and proper chunky chips and seasonal veg. Sausage and mash reasonable. Normal prices for the area. Good atmosphere. Quiz nights Sunday 9pm.
Lovely little B&B. Small and compact bedrooms, but comfy bed and is ideal for 1 or 2 nights. Great cooked breakfast, made to order freshly. Great lunch bar food and quiz on a Sunday night, friendly helpful staff. Would recommend to family and friends
The room was basic but had all I needed. No proper window, just a skylight but was fine in November. Service was friendly and food was lovely. Great location with plenty of interesting places around the pub. I would stay again. Rooms: Nice room, basic but includes the usual. Small bathroom. Food & drinks: Fantastic fish and chips
We stopped in for an evening meal. We had booked a table essential for a Saturday night. Family run pub, friendly and warm. We all enjoyed our food. I ordered liver and onions - easy to not do well, but this was excellent. The menu is proper well-done pub fayre.
My wife and I stopped in for dinner earlier this year when we were staying nearby at a cottage at Sparrowpit. We had the Sunday roasts and it was great. Just getting around to leave a review. Anyway next time we are up there will be back.Service: 5/5
The staff were chatty and helpful, especially at breakfast. Lovely and friendly. The pub is gorgeous and looked very festive. Called into the pub many times over the years when out walking and always been great so decided to book a room. Booked the Kingsize room for one night. The room tastefully decorated and had everything necessary for the stay but if you are planning to stay in this room and have a sound night's sleep take some ear plugs. The room is situated at the side of where the deliveries arrive and appreciate the time of year but honestly it was like Picadilly Circus from 5am. Due to the conversion of how the room has been made into a bedroom, possibly previously storage or cold store space, it literally feels like you are in the road. Appreciate it is difficult re timings for deliveries especially leading up to Christmas but really wish I'd taken some earplugs or been advised when booking where the room was situated. Literally open the door , take one step and fall onto the bed. Did feel like a converted garage. Really wish I'd booked a different room..
Lovely old worldly pub in the beautiful Peak District. Great food supported by a friendly bar team. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Well worth a look. Food & drinks: Extensive menu.
