Went here after a leisurely walk around the area. Met friends for Sunday lunch. The Sunday roast was excellent. The beef was delicious and lots of vegetables. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were the best! The staff was attentive and friendly. The pub felt cosy and homely. Dogs are welcome too!
It getting hard to find restaurants open on a Sunday evening, I had to drive 10 -12 minutes to this one, and I had been warned the roasts were sold out, so I settled beef steak pie. I was seated at a table oppsite the massive fire place with my back to some stairs. The wait was just enough to make me notice it, The steak was plenty full and lean the pie pastry was "robust" and the gravy rater thin. But it was tasty, I treated myself to.a dessert, which was most enjoyable. It was quite noisy being close to the bar where various people cane and went and drank. Service was very polite and timely..
We booked a table to have Sunday lunch here after a circular hike around Alport Castles. Food was decent enough and the coffee and walnut cake my wife had for dessert was the highlight. I have to say that the service was pretty slow though. It just seemed as if nobody was really taking much notice. When we'd finished our Sunday lunches our empty plates, along with empty glasses were sat on our table for 20-25 minutes. We wanted dessert so I asked one of the staff when I was on route to the toilet for a dessert menu and upon delivery of the menu the plates and glasses were finally taken away. It then took a further 20 minutes and 3 staff members to be made aware in order to place our dessert order. What was really poor though was that one staff member was taking a drinks order from the table next to us and seeing as it was this staff member that I originally asked for a dessert menu I was stumped for a reason as to why our dessert order wasn't taken then. The staff were friendly and polite but lacked awareness in my opinion. In relation to the response. I'm sorry Sophie but I'm going to decline the invite to discuss our experience further. The experience we had has been commented on and it's not my responsibility to assist you with regard improving the service. The reviews you get from paying customers should be enough feedback and me calling you is unnecessary.
Sunday lunch with family. Good sized portions. Wild Boar and Apple pate starter was delicious. Veg with my roast was a little over cooked for me. Pudding and cheeseboard delicious! Good children's menu too.
Beautiful rooms, gorgeous restaurant, and just a lovely inn tucked into the heart of the peak district. Perfectly situated if you're wanting to hike the peaks, but public transportation to/from hathersage is unreliable as it is quite isolated. Whatever Robert is making, it isn't enough. You can tell he genuinely cares about every person who walks through the door and does everything he possibly can to ensure you have a perfect stay. Food was delicious, rooms were incredibly comfortable, and the town of Hathersage is incredibly charming!
4 of us there on Sunday 9th October. The tables for 4 people are far too small, better suited for 2 people. The food was good, well cooked and presented and was tasty too. However, the portions are small. Just a couple of carrots and just two, small roast potatoes. The mashed potato was barely a desert spoonful and the 2 slices of beef were small. It felt as though they only had enough food for 2 people but shared it out to feed 4. It is all table service when you dine but the service was slow, and when asking for the desert menu, we finally fetched it ourselves. We only had desert because we were still hungry as the mains portions were inadequate; maybe that's the plan!
An exceptional stay here. I was passing through for a work related event and stayed here for one evening. It was beautiful! The food was excellent and the staff were so accommodating. Special thanks for Robert for the amazing breakfast service and chat, the chef for accommodating an earlier breakfast for me and Nadine for being such a lovely waitress! The breakfast they provide with the room is outstanding I had the over night oats and the poached eggs and avo. They even provide a packed lunch service which I took full advantage of. The pub its self is cosy, traditional and well kept. The room had everything I needed and was provided with tea and coffee facilities. Absolutely would recommend this place over any other if you are visiting the area and I’ll definitely be back.
Superb countryside inn with a log fire and great range of cask ales. There's a varied menu offering excellent food. I've not stayed here so cannot comment on the rooms. Service is friendly and dogs are welcome. Worth seeking out although parking is minimal. I've been coming here since the late 80s and always come away feeling great!
Glad we checked this out after a post on Instagram. The food was delicious, and cooked to perfection! Highly recommend the pork belly bites and scallops for starters . We didn't book were lucky enough to get a table. We will definitely book next time. Staff were very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere.Service: 5/5
After a long walk we stopped here for lunch,we sat outside in lovely surroundings and quaint waterfall. We ordered 4 meals 3 Sunday roast and a burger,we waited a good 40mins for our food which came n stages. Two meals arrived first they looked fantastic and the plate was warm, the waitress said she would bring us cutlery she came out twice more delivering desert and then a drinks order to other tables. They then brought the 2 other meals for our table and asked if we wanted sauces.. we replied cutlery would be good . By the time we got our cutlery the majority of our food was warm and some parts cold which for something that looked so good turned out to be disappointing. I left most of my dinner my son enjoyed his burger ate with his hands but not the skinny fries. All in all a disappointment but maybe caught on a off day.
