Wonderful for so many reasons. The staff are so friendly, the rooms are extremely clean and the food is delicious. BEST steak pie ever..!! A special thanks to Jana and Alison serving us for the weekend. Well done to all staff and management. You have a great team Thank youRooms: 5/5
A fabulous lunch by the roaring fire! Excellent quality produce, great options. The batter on the fish was light, fish flaky, chips outstanding. Little pot with some scraps on the plate too with a little dollop of curry sauce. Love to see it. Sticky toffee pudding was a delight. Staff were friendly and helpful without being overbearing. We've booked again for dinner just before Christmas. Can't wait!
We had a great lunch on Thursday with our friends. We were besides the fire it was really comfortable. Shown to our seats by a young man who left us menus and came back to take our drinks order. The meals were not quick but each one was cooked fresh I had chicken breat which was succulent my husband's liver and onions very tasty our friends had fish and chips and the meat pie. Each meal was excellent and to finish I had a delicious sticky toffee pudding. We all rolled out very satisfied. Very friendly staff as well. Will be going again soon.
Spending a few days in South Yorkshire, a trip into the Peak District national park was planned. A Google of the area, found the Barrel Inn claiming to be the highest pub in the Peak District with good food. I was not disappointed with the fantastic views that could be seen from the pub car park, but very little could be seen from the pub interior. It is a charming and old pub inside with some modern touches. Food appeared to be of very good quality, although the staff could only 'squeeze' us in to have coffee.
Absolutely brilliant. Food was amazing and they managed to find space for 6 of us from a very short notice booking. Have been recommending to all my friends and relatives. Will definitely visit again when the weather warms up. View is spectacularService: 5/5
We heard excellent things about the new chef and as we were driving by we stopped for a drink. We asked the waitress as we walked in if we could sit somewhere for a drink and she said it was absolutely fine as long as the table was not set. We sat, ordered our drinks and paid for them and then the gentleman behind the bar asked us to leave the table “as it was the waitress’ mistake she let us sit” and said the only table free was the one next to the kitchen behind a wall.Of note half of the tables were free and we had our toddler with us. It’s really a shame that his unacceptable behaviour put us off so much we won’t come back again to try the chef’s food.
The Barrell Inn was recommended by a neighbour. It's in a lovely spot with wonderful views from the car park. Welcoming interior, friendly staff, clean modern toilet facilities and log burners - what's not to like. Unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations. We expected our hot food to be served on warm plates but no such luck - the cloths the waitress used to deliver our food to the table must have been for hygiene reasons only. The food was a tad quick being served so we expect it was zapped in a microwave rather than freshkly cooked. warm rather than hot but as we didn't fancy twice zapped food we just ate quickly. OK, but not the best and we're not inclined to repeat the experience. Table service only so no going up to the bar to peruse what drinks are on offer, not sure how welcome those wanting a drink only would be.
Fabulous lunch at this traditional rural hotel. Booking is recommended as the restaurant was busy during our visit. Comfortable, warm, great menu, good beer abd even better service. Fabulous views making it well worth the visit.
An amazing hostelry in a remote location with views of the Peak District from a high level Rooms decorated and furnished to a very high standard. Great food choice for dinner and breakfast cooked to individual order Would recommend for special occasion but advise to book early to avoid disappointment
Used to bring friends here but the building has been subjected to some tasteless modernisation that has really hurt the character. Grey, grey, grey. And glass. So boring. At 3pm on a Saturday we couldn’t even get a sandwich so just had to have hot chocolate which wasn’t very warm. Wouldn’t let us in because we had a dog so had to sit outside in the cold. My guests said they were “not overly impressed”. The whole place now feels like it has had its soul sucked out to squeeze in as many wealthy tourists as possible. Which was reflected in the number of elderly people climbing out of a Range Rovers.
