The Old Nags Head
"The Old Nags Head is a low-ceilinged, stone-built, traditional country inn situated in a building dating back to 1577. The pub is filled with plenty of authentic character and charm. Boasting a wonderful location and great atmosphere, and having been voted in the top 20 country pubs in the UK by The Times, the Old Nags Head will have you coming back time after time.Sitting as the official start of The Pennine Way, The Old Nags Head will catch your eye immediately. The style of our pub is one like you don’t see in the modern day – dating back to 1577 you will want to take a second to take in everything that we have to offer! Inside you will find a beautifully warming fire amongst the several different rooms and snugs throughout the pub. Ta"

The pub is perfectly located to have a drink and some food after a hike around Edale. Venue and drinks were brilliant. A little underwhelmed by the food. Had the fish and chips and the cod still had the skin on, made it taste too fishy. I would still recommend to friends.
We had the best experience at this pub! We booked a week or two ahead for 16 people, and they were so accommodating especially for a Friday night. The hosts were lovely, the food was great service was so quick! and it was nice to have a separate room so we could be a bit louder. Thank you so much, we will be recommending this pub to our friends!
Lovely warming pub in a quaint little village, just what is needed after a long Autumnal walk in the valley. Unfortunate long queue for the bar despite not being too busy, ordered the Sunday carvery which was great, even at the end of the day although the beef looked pretty sad and frazzled. My son however had the kids burger and chips which was disappointing, looked and tasted like the effortless things you’d expect to get served up from an 80s burger van. Don’t worry, you’re not the only pub to disappoint on the kids meals, just because they’re little they don’t all require bland food.
With wonderful food, good grog cider, and a grand location this is a must visit pub to finish your day. This place has a wonderful 'pick and mix' sausage, mash, and sauce menu that is just perfect after a days hiking. This is the option we have chosen each time we visit, and there are still one or two permutations to try out!Service: 5/5
Me and my friend went today with her son. The staff were super accommodating. The food was good. Best chocolate brownie we've ever had. My friends 4 year old very tired from Mam Tor son is very fussy with food and we could feel a toddler outburst coming because there was no curry. The staff made him a bespoke meal or rice and cheese which he loved and was surprisingly presented really well. Lovely place to go. Thank you for going the extra mile.
If you haven't been in here for a while like 20 years, be sure to check it out. It's massively improved. Excellent choice of real ales and good honest pub grub. Just what you want from a pub in this part of the world!Service: 5/5
3 times I have been walking around edale over the past few years... and I can't believe I have never been in this great pub. Always following friends to the other down the road . So I can say that I prefer THE OLD NAGS HEAD Also I made the change, best choice. Lovely place/ great choice of food and beers / friendly staff. I definitely will return, finished my day walking with food/ beer. Food & drinks: Great choice both food and drinks.
Having been to Edale before and seen tho Old Nags Head we decided to head over from Castleton for lunch there. Pulled into their empty car park at the back of the pub and was immediately greeted by a staff member telling us we couldn’t park there, it was for staff and residents only. The car park was totally empty but he told us we would have to find somewhere else to park if we wanted to eat there. If the car park had been full I perhaps could have understood but we were the only car in it. Maybe they should consider the needs of their paying customers over staff parking. Needless to say we took our custom elsewhere. . Had a lovely lunch at the Rambler just down the road.
Website and the sign outside the pub say they are open daily. It wasn’t open when we called on a Wednesday lunchtime after a long walk! Not sure if this was a one-off or whether it is closed other days as well? If you’re caught in the same position, I’d recommend the Ramblers Inn, half a mile done the road.
The staff here were lovely but the food was not lovely. The building was adorable but the meat was clearly frozen. It was also the only place I've ever seen fry what i assumed was a salmon steak and serve it as fish and chips.
