I really enjoyed my stay. This place is a world apart. The building is from a by gone era of respect and dependability and gentility. Quiet pervades...as does peace and order and trust. The rooms and general outlay is practical without diminishing the feeling of being a guest in some discreet person's house. Breakfast is lovely. Plenty of choice and all done well. I particularly liked the reading room where you can't use your phone or computer.
Absolute hidden gem, very clean, rooms generous by London standards. Good showers. Very quiet and peaceful, you wouldn't know you were in central London. Facilities provided in the dining room for bringing your own food, microwave etc. Lovely large sitting rooms. No bar but you can bring your own drinks. Charming staff. Altogether excellent value if you are on a budget and want a civilised base.
Nice cozy little hotel. My mother stayed here when she was a young adult when she first visited London, so on my first visit I stayed as well. English breakfast is served in the morning. The room was clean and comfortable. My room didn't have a toilet or shower so I used the floor bathroom which was perfectly fine. My only complaint was the lack of a lift. I'm in Europe for a month so my suitcase is quite heavy. Carrying it up 4 flights of stairs was a serious pain. But I imagine installing an lift into an old building would be very expensive. Either way, I would recommend the Penn Club.
Mixed. The lower room are bigger and more airy. The top floor rooms are small. This is a basic place. No kleenex, no little bottles of shampoo, etc. The breakfast is good. Big variation in friendliness, helpfulness of reception staff.
When we go to London we always stay at the Penn Club. We value the peace, serenity, dignity, cleanliness, comfort and courtesy. An oasis of calm, an elegant Georgian terrace in the centre of a bustling, crowded city. The Club relies upon the support of it's members to maintain this atmosphere; it's charitable status means that it is able to lease the building on favourable terms, an option not available were it to be run as a purely commercial concern. As overheads are continually rising it is vital that the Club maximises its income, it could easily do this by providing bar facilities. The members are opposed to this as it is felt the peaceful nature of the place would be compromised. If every one who stays here because of it's qualities were to become members, perhaps it's existence in it's present form might become more secure.
My place to stay in London. Staying at the Penn Club is like being at home. A quiet place, calm atmosphere, nice stuff and management. I can walk almost anywhere. I have a park nearby. I'm looking forward to my next stay.
If you want clean and quiet, and don't mind spartan e.g. no TV in rooms, this is a great place. The location is super. An especially nice feature is the common fridge, and dishes and cutlery available all day so that residents can save some money by getting food at the nearby Sainsbury or Tesco. Caters to a generally older clientele, and lots of academics stay there.
I love this place to bits. It has all of Paddington bear's Aunt Lucy's values of courtesy and respect for others; and furthermore the beds are very comfortable and the staff couldn't be more helpful and accomodating.
Highly recommended. Excellent value for money in the heart of Bloomsbury, excellent staff, comfortable. You won't regret staying at the Penn Club.
We love this friendly, affordable and conveniently located B&B! Comfy beds, nice shared living spaces and fantastic breakfast. Right by the British Museum!
