"The Dirty Bottles – or as the locals in Alnwick, Northumberland say it ‘Thi Dorty Bottles’ – pub has been open for over two centuries and the building is thought to have been constructed in the 1600’s.The pub was previously called Ye Old Cross Inn but due to the famous “Curse of the Dirty Bottles“, said bottles remained untouched in one of the front windows and a sign was affixed at the window, which read ‘Dirty Bottles’, so most local Alnwick folk adopted that name and we have continued with that tradition.Serving amazing food, cocktails and local beers this iconic Freehouse also has 9 hotel bedrooms. Booking is always advised as we get very busy."

Fantastic experience, not only to eat, but also to spend time in this amazing place in general. Very nice and cozy design connected with the architecture of the building and with this whole lovely town. I ate here one of the best lasagna in my life. Great service also, especially greetings to the petite, pretty waitress. She was so kind and helpful. Can't wait to visit this place again someday, what a nice memory
Fantastic evening meal with a dozen friends. Bar was rather busy with quite a long wait to be served but it was Saturday night. The food was a delight and the service was excellent. Presentation and quality were superb and the flavours were stunning. I had the King Prawn Hanging Skewer which was yummy and for pudding I had the sticky toffee pudding which I can honestly say was the best I've ever tasted, and I've tasted quite a few! It was made properly with dates and was soaked in the most delicious toffee sauce and accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Top notch! Beware of the cheeseboard...it's enormous. It was ordered and shared on our table...rather too much for one person! I highly recommend the Dirty Bottles as a place to eat and I'd like to take my hat off to the chef!
Table booked for 1.45 pm but we arrived a little early. Quiet for a Sunday lunchtime. Started with a share nachos, which fed 5 people. Lovely Sunday lunch, never fails to impress, served with vegetable, roast and mash potatoes, although it also had red cabbage, not a Sunday lunch veg. Had a variety of burgers which the kids enjoyed and steak, served with peppercorn sauce and chips. Service very good. Had to take a doggy vague home but they only provide kitchen foil, not ideal, and would be better with some sort of container.
Very nicely themed rooms with amazing food. Only a couple of very minor issues with the fixtures and fittings in the room but none of these affected functionality. Staff were very attentive and we had a really nice time here. Food was great value for money - large portions and quite tasty.Food: 5/5
A holiday evening meal for the family and it was great! Lovely food, lots of drink options, friendly and professional staff and decent prices compared to home too. The £14 Smokehouse option was delicious. The historic building is an additional bonus.
We stayed here the night before my Son's wedding, lovely place. Gorgeous clean room, lovely, friendly staff. We will definitely stay again. Only thing I was disappointed with was my husband not booking us in to eat , our fault!! The food looked amazing. We did have a breakfast which was great .
Nice place to eat in the middle of Alnwick. Food is very good with empty plates all round. Debt 6 selection of drinks too. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food arrived pretty quickly too. No parking at the pub, or none that we could see, but there's disk parking nearby and a free car park about 5 minutes walk away. Dropped one star because even though our table was clean it was sticky. Probably just needs a good wash rather than a spray and wipe over with a used cloth.
Had the roast dinners and absolutely incredible - we are very fussy with restaurants roast dinners homemade is so good! and these were the best ones we have ever had, inclusive of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets all for £13 each! Highly recommend - do not miss.
Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and the food was phenomenal. Perfect stop for a hardy dinner. Even down to the decor this place is fantastic. This is definitely a must see if you’re driving through or staying in town!Recommended dishesTwo Meat Platter
Interesting place with good local ales on the bar. We might have been persuaded to eat here if we'd had a warmer greeting with something other than a curt 'Can I help you?' as if we were trespassing on someone's property rather than waiting to be seated in a restaurant. We hadn't seen the menus or had a chance to decide so ended up being shooed along into the bar area. Shame as the look of the restaurant is what had attracted us from the outside.
