Gorgeous setting with the lake, the grounds and the outdoor pool. We had a superior room which was lovely, overlooking the lake. The meals are average, not great variety at lunch and dinner, and the service at dinner left room for improvement. The indoor spa is nice but not huge so I think summer is the best time to visit to take advantage of the outside spaces.
I love this place. They have redone the dining room and the food is much improved since my last visit before Covid. I like that they do table service for lunch as well as Dinner. Its more hygienic. Good menu choices. I think the mattress in my room needs replacing as I could feel the springs, so not very comfortable ...and it was a superior room! The room was very clean. The prices in the coffee bar are too high and classes must be paid for I believe.
Good spa facilities even though the pool is not heated during these cold months. Rooms need more modern touch and more thorough cleaning and maintenance. For the price you pay it’s not worth. The food was meh, no much selections. Breakfast is continental cold buffet but they offer hot buffet for an additional charge. All in all good spa facilities, lovely views but rest of the things need huge improvements!
Booked twilight evening spa for myself and friend, haven’t visited in a few years and still enjoyed as much as I had in the past. The spa facilities were lovely and clean, and we enjoyed the additional thalassotherapy pool which we paid at an extra cost. Lovely idea of welcome bag which included slippers and bath robe. Three course meal was lovely. Good variety of food to choose from but portions could be a bit bigger! My lamb hot pot was a bit salty and it would have been nice to have more than one small parsnip and a few pieces of sliced potatoes. Check in was extremely busy, understandable that guests were checking in around the same time, so would be ideal to have extra staff on stand by for this. Few minor things to improve on to make this a 5 star visit. I would definitely return.
Just returned from a one night stay and it’s gone down hill in last few months. I stayed in October and although there were a few spa facilities not in use which was disappointing we really enjoyed the food. This time the food was awful, loads on menu not available, less choice and when it did eventually arrive it was poor and tasteless. Must be a new chef. Also check your bill on departure as we noticed we’d been overcharged and the listed items did not add up to the total final bill, this was not the service and charity charge but a mysterious amount not listed just added to total bill. You could easily miss it, I wonder how many people just paid Will definitely not be returning.
My friend and I booked a two night stay in between Christmas and New Year so we could recharge and catch-up. Whilst the setting is lovely, the spa is great and the treatments are amazing, our room and the restaurant did leave a bit to be desired. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, meaning we did not sleep well and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly. The entire place was also just too hot and dry. The portion sizes in the restaurant are a little stingy and anything cooked at breakfast comes with an extra cost, which also seems pretty stingy. We would potentially go back, but only for the day - for the price, the hotel/restaurant part isn't something I'd pay the high price for again.
Absolutely awful. No idea how this is a 4 star hotel/spa. We feel absolutely robbed. The grounds are beautiful and the treatments were nice albeit extortionate but the place is so so run down and dirty. The spa is barely functioning, so much is broken and doesn’t work, everything smells bad. It felt like a leisure centre. The bedrooms are seriously shabby and dirty. The restaurant is shocking, terrible food and even worse service, and loads of extra fees. Do not come to this place, you’ll be so disappointed. Have no idea how they’re getting away with charging what they do. At the end when you check out they put an additional service charge on your bill which you then have to ask to be removed.
It’s fine. I wouldn’t pay full price for a stay here, unfortunately the whole place needs re doing, all tired and outdated. No atmosphere, previous reviews mention that having some relaxing music playing would be nice, staff are friendly however and they try to make up where this experience lacks. Food is edible but don’t waste on paying for extras, £3.50 for boiled broccoli, madness. And they didn’t have a corkscrew on-site and so we couldn’t order wine…they weren’t doing cocktails despite giving us a menu with them on. Very strange.
Had a fun 3 days at the spa with my boyfriend~ The waitress Katelyn was very friendly, enthusiastic and observant. Our shampoo/shower gel was not topped up one of the days, our thermostat was turned up to 40 degrees one day, and one of the USB bedside chargers weren't working even when the key card is plugged in. Lovely area, near the lake. Nice walks nearby. Bike hire was free however they were poorly maintained. Hard to use, gears dropping by itself. Overall, a good experience. House keeping could do better. Food - portions could be bigger if you're exercising everyday.
Booked using my Vitality discount so the cost was not too extortionate, however I booked in January 2022 and the earliest availability to visit was 30 July 2022. Treatment The treatments were lovely and relaxing. I had a facial and my partner had a massage. 5/5 Food In. The. Bin! Well if we could have thrown it away, we would have. The presentation was fab but it was all rather unseasoned, tasteless and boring! We googled the nearest McDonalds or Waitrose in a plan to go an get some food! At breakfast we were seated and told it was self service, we were NOT given a menu with the hot food options that you can pay for. -7/5 although the service was excellent with all the waiters being fab although you could see they were working very hard! Facilities/room The general building has an old feel to it but it is immaculately clean! Our room was average which was fine. 3/5 The grounds are great for taking a long walk by the lake. The gym has a great selection of equipment. We also made use of the mountain bikes and went for a 3 mile cycle before lunch. 5/5 The spa was lovely, it can get busy at times but there is always somewhere to lounge. You can book classes if you want to which is a great option, take advantage is you are interested! 5/5 Would we visit again - yes, but will probably go out to a local restaurant for dinner and bring a pot of oats for morning breakfast.
