Bull At Streatley
"The Bull Inn is a lovely, traditional 15th Century Coaching Inn in the heart of the village of Streatley, Reading. Our pub has the traditional characteristics of a Coaching Inn and is famous for being made one of the stops in Jerome K Jerome's book '3 Men in a Boat'. Our menu has a huge selection of pub classics from, and if you’re looking for something a little lighter we have plenty more to take your fancy. Pop in for a pint of cask ale, a refreshing glass of wine or a soft drink, our friendly staff are always on hand to advise on what we have on offer. We also have six rooms available for our guests to stay in; these are popular with visitors and especially those attempting Ridgeway Walk."

We came here yesterday to celebrate a special occasion. The food was lovely, with a great variety to choose from off of the menu. Incredibly friendly and attentive staff. We were served by Annie who went above and beyond and even brought her doggy outside to meet us on her afternoon break. I loved the outside seating area with the pretty flowers. Overall very pleasant experience, thank you
We are Bulgarians and we are extremely fussy about the natural taste, but this place really deserves 5 stats. The gammon was super juicy, tasty and well cooked, even the mayo was so delicious. The chips was so tasty also. I am so surprised and I am happy that I spent my two hours in this calm and nice place with super tasty food. The girl who took the order, blond skinny girl was so nice also, and the guy who brought the food was nice and calm too. I love the atmosphere and the food. Don't change it
Nice pub restaurant with polite and friendly staff. Very quiet, but to be expected for a Monday lunchtime in the current economic climate. Selection of food was good and offered good value for money. Exactly what you'd expect for pub grub. We enjoyed our meal and thought it good to have light bite options for lunch. Options and alternatives are clearly available for special diets which is always good to see. All in all a nice meal and we would be happy to return.
One of our guest was Gluten Free we advised of this when we booked our table online. We got seated and was given 2 menus. I did ask if they provided a Gluten Free menu as I thought if they did they would have seen in my booking and that I would require one. The member staff said she was just going to get one. She walked past us twice and I wasn’t given one. My daughter handed me her menu and I advised that I was waiting for my Gluten Free menu and the member of staff must have overheard me advising my daughter so she can back with one. We ordered our drinks, one of us had full coke and one of us had Pepsi Max. When the lady came back with one of our drinks she gave it to the wrong guest and then she came back with our other one drink and gave this to the wrong guest and so we had to swap them over. We then began to order our food was not asked if we had any allergies or tolerance to any food and the member of waiting staff didn’t even start to write down our order and then was advised that she would need to add it on the till so she did t forget our order as her memory wasn’t that good. We had a starter, main and pudding. The one guest who was gluten free advised the member of staff that all the food that was ordered was from the gluten free menu. With this we sat and waited for our starters. When the starters came out the guest that was gluten free had ordered a prawn cocktail for starters which on the gluten Free menu advised it would come with gluten free bread. Then the prawn cocktail came out the guest that was gluten free asked the lady if the bread was gluten free this looked like normal bread as the guest has been gluten free for a while they know between gluten free bread and normal bread with this the lady said yes that is gluten free bread we all knew it wasn’t she then went off and came back and advised the chef hadn’t done it gluten free. If the guest who was gluten free had eaten this we had confirmation of the member of staff that the bread was gluten freeand not questioned the bread, it would have ruined our meal out all together. The 2 members of the waiting staff liked like they really didn’t want to be there but One of our guests used the the bathroom and was advised that all the toilets had poo stains inside the toilet, wee over the toilet seats and toilet roll all over the floor and didn’t look like they had been from the night before. We then to then pay for our meal. We had been given some vouchers and asked if we could use these only to be told they do they didn’t take vouchers there. We we were very surprised about as most pubs and companies take vouchers now a days.
Less than average pub lunch. Super dry roast chicken and our ale pie and beef lasagna didn’t look very home made. Although it seemed like it as we were waiting almost an hour to be served . It was Sunday 2:30pm or so and it was quite quiet - far for being full !
Worst pub I have ever tried to book a meal with. Very unhelpful. There were 15 for lunch on a Wednesday. Weren't at all welcoming and lady bar member miserable. Overcooked fish and cold rice with curry. Positive: lovely waitress who made up for the rest of staff. Would not recommend
The Bull Inn is a well positioned pub in the charming village of Streatley. There is ample car parking and from there visitors are welcomed with a sign saying that "In 1440 a nun & a monk here slain for misconduct, and buried under the yew tree". As in many other places, food is available late in the afternoon after 5 pm. The menu contains the warmth pub classics, but please note that there are nearly no vegan options. The Bull Inn is a cozy place for socialising with friends on an afternoon's weekend over a well-poured drink served by a courteous, friendly, efficient and attentive staff.
Quick stop at The Bull before visiting friends. Lovely pub, friendly staff.
Overnight stay spoilt by filthy bathroom! Ingrained build up of dirt and filth from neglect . No basic toiletries in the bathroom - not even soap for hand washing! The remote control for the tv was a horror show we decided to not watch tv rather than use it. Beds were uncomfortable , curtains to window were missing so no privacy , door curtain was broken. Overall unless the hygiene is drastically improved we would not recommend staying here. Very disappointed. If you do decide to stay don’t look under the toilet seat!
The pub was a welcome sight after a long day on the Ridgeway walk. Food was nice cooked quickly and served with a smile good selection of ales and the price was right. Good size car park at the back which make changing my boots easy.
