Rooms are very small as is bathroom. Bed was comfy enough but has to be a small double to fit in room. Bedside lights directly above pillows so hit my head on them a dozen times. Was nice and warm in midwinter from 5 pm till 10.30 but then heating goes off and room is very cold for rest of night till 6 am then off again about 10 till later in afternoon. Breakfast was very nice served by nice lady which offset slightly miserable male manager who is don't think wants to be there. For a single night stopover not too expensive was OK but wouldn't want you stay more than 1 night
Impressed by the 1400s date. The phone number is not that visible. Looking forward to visit you.
A clean and comfortable room . The price was good although the room was a little small. Easy check in with friendly staff. Breakfast was included and very tasty. I would stay again if in the area
Couldn't get a room en route from Reading to Bournemouth for under £160. This place has one for £57. I was dubious but had to do it. Thank God I did. Nice little run of rooms, basic, a little dated but clean and equip with everything you would need. View from my room over the church, TV, tea and coffee, good shower, desk and chair and two beds. Looking forward to breakfast.
We had one night here to attend a funeral. The room is in a block at the back of the main building. To say it is dated is an understatement but the bed was clean and comfy and we had what we needed in the room. Breakfast was very good and the Manager let us stay an extra half an hour in the morning which helped a lot. All in all the stay here served us well and is near Reading where we had to go.
Decor from the 70's and a mattress that feels like it's from the same decade. Described as Historic and charming and has apparently carried over the water pressure from when it was originally built in a effort to be authentic....there was concern if I would actually be able to remove the suds during my shower or have enough pressure for other matters. No food available and the website provides minimal information about where you can eat or the fact that most places stop serving food at 9 locally. On the plus side at least I didn't have to worry about sleeping through my alarm, the thin walls meant the car parked next to my room woke me up when they pulled off early in the morning and as a backup I could hear everything from the room above... Every step, flush and otherwise.... All in all not a great stay.
The only good thing about this hotel was the breakfast. The room was up some outside stairs, tiny and cold. Couldn't get the radiators going and the bedroom windows didn't seal properly which didn't help. Didn't try the shower as it was just too cold in the bathroom. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. If the breakfast had been bad it would have been one star.
The welcome was like we were a inconvenience to the manager. The room was intresting to say the least; the beds were clean and comfortable and towels clean, however the bathroom had a strong smell of urine so we went straight out to get bleach and sort it. After the greeting we figured easier to sort ourselves! It was late and trying to find somewere else at this time very difficult!! Also charged to pay in full for 2 nights upfront before even viewing the room, not something ever encountered before. The fire alarm on the 2nd night kicked into action at 5am amazing wake up calland the manager took a good 15 minutes to respond lives on site. No apologies or a word to any guests stood outside, just switched it off, didn't bother checking if there was a fire etc and walked away. The breakfast was ok, however it could be done a lot better. The two ladys were lovely and would help as best as they could. They only work when required which is a shame as if they were managing the establishment I'm sure you'd have a lot better experience! It's geared for contractors, totally understand this and not expecting the ritz, especially given the price, but general cleanliness, upkeep and customer service regardless whether you are paying £50 or £150 should not be substandard!!
Didn't like it at all the room was more like a cell.....the beds were lumpy and the curtains thin like nets which my be ok in the winter but in mid June light comes flooding in at 4am. Damp smell in the room which is not surprising as in the morning the window was soaked with condensation. The t.v. was about 16" and most importantly NO WiFi in The room. The manager/ owner just said "You probably won't get it up there" I appreciate it's on the cheep side of things but feel short on all levels for me
the main building is full of history and architecture but in terms of a hotel it's more b and b style American motel as the rooms are not in the main building. The guest rooms are not modern nor particularly clean and unpleasant odours so ok for one night max if you are on business and need a few hours kip for forty quid. Oddly the place is closed at weekends! Theale is a lovely area
