I’m a uni student studying in London, on a two-day solo trip to Edinburgh. I originally booked a 4-bed dorm in a hostel for two nights £15 a night, but had to cancel the second night—there was someone coughing loudly, another person praying at 5 AM, and the lockers didn’t lock. I ended up booking this hotel last minute the next morning £45 a night.nnI was so pleasantly surprised and comfy after checking in! I’d been dreading it because of the bad Google reviews, especially since I got the cheapest basement room with no windows. But it was quiet, spotlessly clean, and the front desk staff were really helpful.nnFirst big plus: 24-hour reception. I looked at other places around the same price, but they were all Airbnbs/homestays that needed a confirmed check-in time upfront. As a solo traveler, I had no idea what time I’d roll in, so 24-hour reception was a total lifesaver.nnSecond win: location. It’s right near the Water of Leith Weir, and only 2km from the Castle—an easy 30-minute walk for me. Half the walk’s through leafy residential areas with loads of churches, the other half along busy roads leading to Princes Street. Getting to see two totally different vibes on my way back to the hotel was such a nice touch.nnAll in all, even the cheapest room here is miles better than the hostel. 100% a 5-star rating from me!
It's hard to review really, if you want a reasonably priced place to stay then this is definitely it. Would I stay again? definitely! Would I expect a friendly person on the desk ? sadly, Not the next time.nWould I expect the guy serving breakfast to be polite and helpful? Sadly, Not the next time. The room was more than adequate for the price so was the location to be fair to the place.nnFood. We had breakfast and it was ok at best. Very rushed and very unorganised. Definitely felt like you were asking to much of the guy.
Not only was the hotel much farther from the city center than desired, it was grungy. We were booked for 6 days. On day 4, I requested that the sheets be changed because I had spilled something. They refused! Half the time the water didn't work. I was also unimpressed with the character of customer they serve. At 03:00 one day the fire alarms went off and the evacuated the building because some dude decided to take out his aggression on a fire alarm. Finally got back to sleep, and it went off again. Poorly managed and not very clean. Quite behind on routine maintenance. Not an enjoyable experience.
A good sized, clean bedroom.nThe bathroom was clean & had lovely thick towels. It isn't a power shower, but perfectly adequate.nTea/coffee making facilities & lovely shortbread biscuits.nThere was a good choice of starters, mains & desserts for the evening meal. It was self-service & the food was hot and tasty.nThe bed & pillows were clean & comfortable. There was also a fan provided.nThere was a good choice of hot & cold food at breakfast. It was well-organised with one member of staff constantly checking & topping up food, whilst the other was checking people in & clearing the tables.nI would definitely stay again due to my experience & the hotel's location close to the centre of Edinburgh.nThis is certainly a five star hotel, albeit not a 'luxury' hotel.
We recently stayed at this hotel, and it was one of the most disappointing experiences we’ve ever had. When we first entered the room, it looked pleasant and reasonably clean at first glance. However, on closer inspection, we found a fake nail on the floor. The toilet was wobbly and not even properly attached to the ground, which was unacceptable.nnThere were also no tissues in the room. We informed the front desk and asked for the room to be cleaned and restocked while we were out, but when we returned later that evening, nothing had been done no cleaning, no tissues, no attention at all.nnThe next day, I expected that housekeeping would at least service the room, but once again, no one came to clean or refill anything. It was honestly disgusting and very disappointing.nnI truly hope management takes these issues seriously and improves both the cleanliness and the level of service, because this stay was far below any reasonable standard.
