I was greeted by a lovely lady at check in, I was early but she made every effort to get me checked in asap.nnI booked here mainly because of the Pool and Spa.nnThe Village has a nice and clean 20m pool, with Sauna, Steam room and jacuzzi, all of which is in great condition.nnThe rooms in the hotel is very basic, but it’s pretty quiet at night except maybe at the weekend. The bed was fresh and comfortable.nnThe room service for the rooms were pretty non existent, I had to go looking for fresh towels, and had to ask at reception to get my room maintained. I don’t know if my room had been skipped from the cleaners lists as so asked one of them one morning and my room wasn’t on her list?
Really lovely venue. It's a social heat beat as there is a Starbucks so there are many people visiting. There is the gym and leisure centre at the hotel that is popular. The bar and restaurant is really lovely with great mid week meal deals and events for sports. We popped in 7am for breakfast even though we were not guest of the hotel. Buffet style breakfast not alot of variety. We were happy to be served so early for non hotel guests. Great decors. Very modern and vibrant venue
I enjoyed myself! It was cool to stay at a hotel that doubled as a gym to the public - something I never really experienced before. The restaurant also is open to the public and it was kind of cool to be there among locals. Great pool and facilities. Conveniently located near a bus stop, although it's about 15 minutes from city Center.
Breakfast is a joke! I paid for this and there was no fruit, nothing but dried banana to go with yoghurt and a section of so few cereals. No muesli. No oats. No porridge. Staff, whilst friendly, didn’t know what time breakfast opened on the bank holiday Monday. Other days breakfast was opened late with a queue of people waiting.nnClub room is large. Medium cleanliness. TV didn’t work in my room.nnConfusion over the car park pricing too. Room says it’s free on weekends. Staff seemed unsure told me it’s included with my room but didn’t ask for my registration. Car park says it’s 4 hours free then charged including weekends. Car parking app doesn’t work well.nnThe hotel is mediocre. It’s cheaper but probably not worth the money in my opinion. Need more attention to detail and better management and proper breakfast options.nnReading other reviews it seems to be a trend. Staff are nice but hotel needs to be better managed and maintained. Total lack of care for detail.nnI wouldn’t stay here again nor recommend it to anyone.
This is a fairly comprehensive review of the gym and leisure facilities at The Village Hotel, Edinburgh. Having been a member for the requisite year I have decided to leave these are my plus and minus points about being a gym and leisure member:nn+nGood size gymnOther members fairly friendlynWelcoming atmospherenFairly good locationnOther businesses inside - Starbucks, restaurant, barnInitial sign-up easynGood engagement via circular emailsnCustomer service decentnPersonal trainers and advice readily availablenLockers easy to usenEntry and exit straightforwardnCar park easy to use and always has spacesnFairly stress-free compared to there gymsnn–nDirty - the toilets and changing rooms are often quite dirty considering the relatively pricey membership feenToilet seats broken and don't stay up!nLocker doors often brokennShower door hooks often brokennGuest pass system very poor see belownBroken equipment - the gym equipment is not maintained adequately considering the price level of the membership feenThey took an extra 2 weeks of money when I left after 12 months so I paid 12 months + 2 weeks which differed from the contract I signednMembership fee raised while I was a member with no noticeable improvementsnSwimming pool very smallnHot tub is very small and always full even off-peaknnMy overall feeling was The Village is very quick to take your money, raise fees and make it difficult to leave 3 months notice and took more than 12 month’s fees from me even though I gave over 3 month’s notice.nnIn general my opinion is that the gym and facilities are not well maintained for the price £62 /m. For around £80-100 a month there are far more well maintained gyms and spas in Edinburgh that I’ve been a member of.nnUltimately I decided to leave due to the focus on extracting more money from me without an adequate approach to making the facilities acceptable. I would happily pay £30-40 a month similar to council gym for this place but not the price they are charging.nnFurthermore I was given 6 printed guest passes when I joined which expired within 1 week! I asked for the dates to be changed and they offered me the option of electronic passes that would not expire. However when I took a guest a couple of times they said the passes were deleted and charged my guest. They offered to get the manager to help but I couldn't be bothered so just paid!nnIn conclusion it is quite a nice place to workout but the gym and leisure facilities are not up to scratch for the amount they charge in my opinion. A manager / boss with more focus on quality rather than taking guest's money would improve the situation and I may have stayed on.
