Absolutely delightful staff; Jess & Ben particularly so - they made our 2 night stay there so lovely! They were both so friendly & kind and went above & beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Jess recommended a really nice walk for us to go on. Honestly couldn’t find a single fault. Breakfast was great. We also ate there for an evening meal & it was really nice. We stayed as a family of 4 with our dog there are even dog treats on the menu!!. We will definitely be returning. Thanks so much! x
We had a lovely 3 night stay in room 5. The pub is cosy and feels like a true Lake District stop. The rooms are basic, with a shower or a bath, but clean, comfy and perfect for a few nights. Jess was super friendly every morning welcoming us with a hearty Cumbrian breakfast. The view from the breakfast room is beautiful overlooking fields and woods. The pub itself is worth stopping at for food too. Proper pub classics for a fair price. The stacker burger is huge! Loved sitting next to the log burner at night with a pint or two too. Would definitely stay again. Thank you everyone for such a wonderful stay.
Food is okay, service is terrible. We visited here twice and both were ridiculous. Our first visit we were seated in the restaurant. First off, they brought out my husband’s drink and after 15 minutes I still didn’t have mine. The staff practically sprint in and out of the restaurant, so when I managed to finally grab someone’s attention, I had to say my drink had been forgotten about. After we had finished our main meals, an hour had passed and still no-one had returned to take our plates, ask if we wanted more drinks or desserts. I finally got someone’s attention and asked for a dessert menu, to which we again sat for another 20 minutes without anyone coming back. In the end we just got up and paid our bill, absolutely terrible service. We even tried the Sunday lunch the following day to see if maybe they were just having a ‘bad night’, but yet again… terrible service. Ordered two Sunday lunches which were okay, but very overpriced. My husband asked for mint sauce, this was brought over 20 minutes later when our plates were empty…. I definitely won’t be returning.
A quintessential Olde English country pub set in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District with a large car park at the rear. Low door frames, paving slab floors, low beams adorned with horse brasses, creaky tables, nooks, and crannies populated with stuffed animals and birds. A warm friendly greeting from the barman a choice of where to sit and a welcome for our dog. The menu has plenty to tempt the hungry patron and dog as they had a mini menu for four-pawed visitors too! We had lite bites, 3 magnificent Cumberland sausages, mash, veg and onion gravy. A skillet with caramelised red onion chutney and baked goat's cheese and salad. A bowl of skinny fries topped off the order which were hot, crispy, and perfectly salted. Delicious, everything was perfect. We WILL be back and highly recommend The White Heart.
This has to be one of the worst pubs I've ever been in.. Totally lacks atmosphere smells like a toilet. Maybe it's better in summer rather than a miserable Feb night?? Staff were lovely and the food was mediocre. Chips with fish and chips were burnt... Such a shame.
We enjoyed a one night stay ! Booked last minute just wish we could have stayed longer ! What a lovely place, excellent food , great atmosphere! Friendly attentive staff , highly recommend take no notice of the bad reviews! Rooms: Our room was comfortable , cosy , clean Food & drinks: Fantastic food !
If you like history wow. Floors slightly slooped but I loved that. Low beams in bedroom but that added to the experience. Loved it. Every staff member were so polite. Looking at past reviews shocks me. All staff more than did their job. No waiting for food. Salt and pepper chips need that recipe. Breakfast. Well I like different. My choice was amazing. Tried the choices. Salmon. Smashed avocado. Then last day the English breakfast. Amazing. Breakfast room large window what a view to start the day. Been to so many b@b. This was 10. For hotel, staff, food and drink. Thankyou for our stay. Rooms: So peaceful. History Nearby activities: Lots to travel to Safety: Always cleaning Walkability: Lots of walks nearby. Dog friendly Food & drinks: Nice food and drinks Noteworthy details: Peace
Very disappointed, room needs updating. No shower, bath was in a poor state with taps that moved and toliet seat poorly fitted. On arrival, after I'd paid told that breakfast is served 8.30 -9am. Complained to person I was there for business and needed to leave at 7.45am. He offered to bring me a bowl of cereal to my room, fine I said. No sign of anyone or any breakfast before I left. The people next door were very loud, shouting and banging til early morning.
Enormous portion sizes, but we were quite chilly on a cold evening. Great meal deal on Wednesday evenings. Standard mrnu. Nothing to choose that was v healthy.
Don’t stay if for work as breakfast isn’t till 8:30 and even though paid for by a company, they will not make you any sandwiches to take instead. The answer was given with a couldn’t be bothered attitude.
