I emailed The Hope & Anchor as they have vegan options and booked a table for dinner on a Tuesday. This is a proper cosy local pub and we got a lovely welcome off landlady Joanne. We sat in the bar area and ordered spaghetti with olive oil, chilli, capers and olives and a funghi pizza. The food was fabulous, the pasta dish was excellent and full of flavour... Joanne's partner makes the sourdough pizza base which was spot on and the pizza was scrumptious. The bonus of the evening was locals who play folk music coming in and playing for the evening. What an enjoyable evening we had, totally unexpected entertainment, fantastic food and a wonderful host. Easily the best pub in Ulverston and if you're vegan or vegetarian you will get well fed. Will definitely revisit.
This is an amazing little pub in amazing little town....live music sessions....great ales.... amazing atmosphere...don't hesitate to pop your head in.... You're in for a proper traditional treat
Been a long time since I've been here but it's a great little pub. Authentic old world pub, with low beams so watch your head. Great beers and areas for sitting. Real fire and friendly staff.
Great wee pub. Good beer selection, friendly staff and it's haunted apparently. Food was also excellent, good for vegetarians or vegans. Did I mention the beer....
Great veggie / vegan menu ..and what a real pub should be .. lots of live music . Fantastic sourdough pizza The landlady is lovely and friendly .. proper rockin pub ..love it
Lovely friendly pub, often has live music. Great vegetarian meals.
Fantastic re furb. Great food and prices. Best sauvignon blanc. Really good pub to visit. Staff were fabulous and friendly. Need music on speakers outside that's the only negative.
Nice wee old traditional pub with low ceilings and beams, no Guinness but a nice array of different beers so definitely worth a try plus it has a nice outside seated area.
Very friendly pub to both humans and dogs. We didn't eat, but kept to very nice beers and a cask cider. Very comfortable surroundings, and a superb selection of music, that wasn't overbearing. Any pub that has Jack Bruce singing Sunshine of Your Love live with an orchestra, followed by Sufjan Stevens gets my vote.
Lovely pub, friendly staff and lovely outside beer garden would recommend to others at the hope and anchor in ulverston.
