This is a locals pub. It has a quite a few characters, some more friendly than others. Decor is basic and in need of updating. The first pub with a camera inside the gents that I have come across. Looking at some of the customers can understand why they might need it. On the positive side, the staff I have encountered are friendly and helpful. The place was clean and tidy.
Described as budget accommodation, and it is that. Random décor and furniture but enough space. Parking at pub was full, but there is a pay and display. Staff were pleasant. Sheets looked mostly clean. Bathroom window was screwed open. Shower was clean but toilet leaked across floor in front onto tiles. Chose to go out for the evening and only came back to sleep. Bed was firm but slept well, noise wasn't an issue pub or road. No breakfast due to Covid, so had to go to garage shop. Wanted to leave at 8am but nowhere to leave keys, access to pub was bolted, no answer on the out of hours mobile so left a message. Fortunately someone staying in the other area of the pub gave us access to use the key box in there. Pub called me back 45 minutes later! Won't be going back.
Rooms are clean comfortable and pretty basic. Pub can be bit noisy downstairs if you fancy an early night. Breakfasts usually are served from 8am so I dont usually bother having one. Prices are really good and guess you get what you pay for. Tea making facilities are in the room and bedroom is nice and warm in the winter
The two stars are for the friendly staff. As for the accommodation, it was the first time in my life where I went on a holiday and dreaded coming back to where I was staying even if I was dead tired from the day's activies. I would've gladly slept in my car if I wasn't feeling bad for my friends who arranged the accommodations for us. I didn't want them to feel guilty. The carpets haven't been cleaned probably since it was first put there. The toilet had poop skid marks. Lol. The bathroom lights flickered like something out of a horror movie. Honestly, we only stayed a day of our two-day accommodation. We drove out at 10pm to a 7 hour drive back home as we were in such a hurry to get out.
Bad room. Stains all over the bed sheet..which I believe were not wash. Also cigarette burns. Hair all over the floor including bathroom. Shower was dirty..probably not been cleaned. Awful furniture. Bad smell across the whole room and building. Broken shower and window. Very little facilities, in which the ones you're given are all basically broken .All in all didn't feel very comfortable during whole stay. To top it off. No staff on premises over night
I didn't stay here but I cannot review the pub alone. This place is filthy. It appears the owners/staff have never heard of bleach or antibac spray. I felt like I needed a bath in sanitizer after visiting here. The staff didn't seem to care that patrons were not adhering to covid restrictions by standing and drinking at the bar. There was no mention of contact tracing.
Fortunately for the new management they have one very good member of staff called Sophie. The rooms are very shabby and in desperate need of refurbishment. Although I ate the breakfast it was probably the worst meal I have had in a hotel. On looking at it my friend cancelled hers. Burnt or over cooked. Good luck to the new management I hope you can turn the place around. I am sure Sophie will be a great asset to you
Perfect if you are a male working in the area and requiring basic accommodation overnight. For everyone else, think again. Not a place for a romantic weekend, nor families. Rooms 5-7 are located above the bar, and the noise from the jukebox and patrons does not subside until around 22.00. On a weekend there is usually a DJ in residence, so it is loud and the music continues even later. The staff will ask if the room needs " refreshing", which seems to consist of providing additional UHT milk, and perhaps occasionally emptying the bin. They either have no knowledge of, or no access to, cleaning products or a hoover. Bed linen was stained and never changed over a twenty day period. Do you really need to stay here? If you anticipate normal standards of cleanliness and comfort, then forget it, and choose somewhere else.
Considering the room was £40 for the night, you can't really complain. The only one complaint would've been that the milk in the room was not fit for human consumption which was disappointing after a day of cycling. Getting drunk with the locals was fun and one of the highlights of my Lands end to John o Groats bike ride which I did accomplish!
Staff pleasant and helpful. Room clean but very shabby. Carpets torn and badly stained. Unable to close window and one glass pane broken. As for the bed, it was probably renewed many, many years ago and it was like sleeping on a bag of spanners!! Although breakfast was available to order, no food was served in the evening therefore had to go to the local fish and chip shop for food. In room 1, there was a constant strong smell of cooking from the Chinese restaurant which was next door. Won't be booking to stay here again.
