Beautiful pub, thank you for such great service, great food and atmosphere Hollie, Mel and the manager Jo There was also live singing tonight which was incredible by a woman called Megan, she had all the right songs too Great night here thank you do much
We've been visiting the Borough Arms for over 30 years. We've seen it through many changes. We always went for the carvery, shame it is only on at the weekend now. But we all enjoyed the meal we had. Our son and l had steak. My husband had the hunters chicken. The pub is dog friendly, dogs allowed in the bar area. Our old girl loved sitting beside us and enjoyed the treats from beside the bar! Dog bowls and water was available, too. Staff were very welcoming, unlike the staff from years ago. We will definitely visit again!
A really fabulous place to eat, especially the Sunday lunch carvery. Their food, service and general atmosphere is second to none. I gave 4 star overall as, sadly, they have changed their dinner plates to more of a soup bowl not quite as deep but rounded upwards. This means that when trying to cut meat near the side, the plate/bowl tips up. My meal did not fall on the table but the next table had that happen and had to scrape food off the table. We did notify the lovely manager who said she would pass it on. Perhaps the bosses will listen and change to proper plates - perhaps not!
Free parking just off the Camel Trial and dog friendly, they asked permission to take a photo of Fudge our Pug but never did take that photo. We both had steak and ale Pie £26 for 2 people if you ordered at the same time. , not sure about the description as hardly any meat, we had hoped for home cooking, this was very standard like shop bought, l imagine like Weatherspoons but at least the Borough Arms is actually dog friendly and the service is speedy. I am so lucky l never risked ordering the apple crumble at the same time as the steak pie. It's standard fair but we know our pub pies and just know there was more gravy that meat. Chios were nice though.
Whilst the food was enjoyable, and the staff incredibly nice and friendly, the service was exceptionally slow. Multiple times we had to check on the status of food and drinks we'd ordered. I believe we waited 45 mins for the deserts to come out. Now, whether there was a lack of staff in the kitchen or front of house, I'm not sure. I'm sympathetic to a busy shift having spent many years in the service industry myself, however there are better ways to handle the long periods of waiting between courses and even simple rounds of drinks. A "sorry this is taking so long, we're short staffed but we'll be right with you" just once would have made us not feel so forgotten. Again I'd like to reiterate though the staff, when we did see them, we're very nice and personable. No complaints there. And bar the slightly overcooked burgers, the food went down a treat.
Welcome, dear food adventurers and pub aficionados, to the grand tale of the Borough Arms, a gem hidden in the wilds of Bodmin, Cornwall. It’s so easy to find, you’d think it’s the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, except it’s better because it’s full of ale, not gold, and let’s be honest, which would you prefer on a Friday night? Navigating the parking lot is a breeze, with more free spots than a leopard has spots. And for our furry four-legged patrons, this place rolls out the red carpet. That’s right, it’s so dog friendly you half expect to see a pooch propping up the bar, regaling you with tales of chasing its tail. Ah, but before you think it’s all smooth sailing, let me regale you with the epic quest of descending the steps to the main entrance. No sign of a wheelchair ramp from our vantage point in the car park, so if you’re rolling rather than strolling, a quick call ahead to confirm access is your best bet. Consider it your very own adventure quest to unlock the enchanted gates of the Borough Arms. Stepping inside is akin to tumbling down the rabbit hole – except instead of tea parties with the Mad Hatter, you get real ale and a welcome so warm, you’d think you were a long-lost relative. The place unfolds like a magician’s endless handkerchief, revealing nooks and crannies galore, and an array of tables as diverse as the crowd it attracts. The staff here? Imagine your best mate, if your best mate were exceptionally good at bringing you food and drinks exactly when you need them. Their approach to service is like Goldilocks’ porridge: just right. Not too intrusive, never neglectful, and with a knack for remembering who’s allergic to what without making it feel like a federal case. Speaking of dietary dilemmas, they tackled my potato starch intolerance with the finesse of a culinary ninja. Hunters Chicken with rice instead of chips, and a special cheese that’s as starch-free as my kitchen is of Michelin stars. And the prices? Let's just say, you’ll feel like you’ve won the lottery, especially when you opt for their meal deals or decide to treat yourself to a dessert that arrives not a moment too soon nor too late, but exactly when you wish it. Every inch of the Borough Arms oozes character, from the eclectic collection of photos and paintings adorning the walls to the curious objects that spark dinner conversation and maybe even a bit of debate. In short, the Borough Arms isn’t just a pub; it’s a destination. A place where you can fill your belly without emptying your wallet, where your dog might just make more friends than you, and where each visit feels like coming home – if home were a magical, ever-expanding cavern of culinary delights. So, if you find yourself wandering between Bodmin and Wadebridge, do yourself a favor and follow the yellow brick road or just the A389 to the Borough Arms. You won’t just like it; you’ll want to come back again and again. Highly recommended, would give more stars if I could!
Good food, pleasant staff and a good range of ales only down side was we had to wait a while for food but the wait was worth itFood: 5/5
Friendly staff and good atmosphere. We’ve been for a carvery and pub grub dinner & really enjoyed both times. We loved that there was live music from a young local musician when we visited one evening, and that they’re dog friendly. It’s very convenient to pop in after walking on the Camel trail!Food: 5/5
A friend said recently after she visited it was "ok pub grub". So i was out with friends after the Cornwall Show, it was busy in the pub, super friendly helpful staff found us a table straightaway. Told us table was ours for 1.5 hours. Great ! Service was fab ! Great efficient customer focused staff. The food arrived swiftly, fresh, piping hot and beautifully cooked. All 3 of us were very impressed. Looking forward to going back !
We went to celebrate a birthday, and we found our table decorated with balloons and a birthday table runner. The food was delicious; we were allowed to take our own cake which they served with the candles on, plus plates and cutlery for no extra charge. Great service and very nice food.Food: 5/5
