Another fantastic meal at the Hanging Gate with the usual excellent service. Chris & his team really do care about ensuring you have a good time & quality food in a cosy environment. My youngest son especially enjoyed his garlic bread to start followed by a quality beef burger. Highly recommended.
Really friendly staff Beautiful halloumi curry and a cosy pub.£12 for half rice and half chip and a naan bread . Really well priced. My mum had scampi and chips and she enjoyed too.
I decided to wait before writing this review as yesterday I was upset at the situation at The Hanging Gate. The service was below standard. The food virtually inedible and the drinks 'watered/iced' down. It all started with a soft drink with half the glass being ice, when I spoke to the manager about it, who was on the bar, he told me that he just puts a scoop of ice in the glass. I know that the hospitality is having a hard time but to try and make money by using ice to reduce the amount of a soft drink is much. We ordered grilled fish in butter and checked if the chips could be swapped for seasonal vegetables. Well, what we got was not grilled and any butter was definitely awol. The seasonal vegetables was green beans which were hardly properly defrosted and peas likewise. The manager's excuse was he gets his seasonal vegetables on a Sunday and this was Friday and that's all he had. Now in my view either he has a problem or the chain of pubs management has a problem, either way, I will not be coming back here, even though I believe in supporting local pubs. Nor will I be going to any J W Lees establishments. I am attaching photos of my ordeal Ps. The toilet door was also broken to the point that it could just be pushed open. Also note mushy peas and frozen peas
Had a very nice meal with a group of friends on Monday 30th October. Everyone enjoyed their food and the Manager went out of his way to make sure everything was right. There is a good choice of food with some smaller portions for those who prefer light bites and the menu choice is good and reasonably priced. Looking forward to our next meal in March.
Just had Sunday lunch. Excellent service from Chris. Nothing was too much trouble even changing our chairs to make us more comfortable. Good food served in welcoming surroundings.
Very nice prawn cocktail - lots of prawns and fresh leaves. Also very good sized gammon steak with fresh pineapple and well cooked egg. Very efficient staff. Altogether a very good experience.
An excellent Christmas meal in lovely surroundings. Friendly, obliging staff in a relaxed atmosphere. We had a great night and a great meal. Couldn't fault it at all.
Pleasant evening with friends, the food was good, we all had something different and all enjoyed it. The beer was good but the other three ordered draught cider, , I thought the cider was too expensive.
This is a lovely pub. Great decor , cosy . Food is very good .Some of the Staff are friendly and accommodating. Recommended. Dog friendly in lovely bar area too for dining.
Went for a baby shower, lovely buffet. The pub is absolutely lovely, dog friendly too. The IPA was tasteless though. Otherwise perfect
