Front row seats for The Car Man - so absolutely worth it! Watching the conductor and the orchestra as well as the amazing stage action. Two shows in one! This is a truly outstanding theatre in every way.
Brilliant show Body & Soul and the venue is excellent. Every team member was so welcoming and friendly, it really added to the experience. It helped that they had a great range of snacks and drinks. Would highly recommend visiting and supporting this theatre.
Sadler's Wells first grabbed my attention in the late seventies, in a magazine called TimeOut, if you wanted to go out in London back then it was a must, the Evening Standard did its best but TimeOut was the favoured and shared Magazine for night-life. Just so you understand why I am saying this, we had no mobile phones or computers at home, or even imagined such things back then.nAnyway, I was watching the Old Grey Whistle test on BBC2, one of three TV stations broadcasting in the UK and I saw a dance performance to a piece of music by a band called 10CC, and I loved it. I think it was at Sadler's Wells, and then I started to notice it in TimeOut, by then I had moved back into inner London, having gotten fed up with ploughing up and down the A1M every day, 'Hatfield and the North' was a road sign that really existed, and a Prog Rock Band.nSo back in London I am repeatedly going past the Theatre, and always saying to myself 'I must go there one day' creating in my mind scenarios of visits etc. It always looked so lovely, summer evenings so sophisticated, and a little to scarily posh, maybe. But I was sure one day I would pluck up the courage and squeeze in among the cognoscenti.nI continued to read about it, see it on TV, walk past or go past it on the Bus or in my car. It underwent a vast makeover rebuilt or refurbished six times, and Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen did not get a look in, just think, scarlet flock wall papers, gold-plated etc etc...nI still imagined going there, having conversations backstage with Twyla Tharp. How can a place exist for so long just doing DANCE, apparently hundreds of years back they had dancing bears there.nBut it exists, and people still go there, sadly not me, by now I am well past it and the only dancing I do is at Christmas when I have had a few, and the neighbours have gone away so it is OK to wack up the music.nSuch a lovey name too in a really lovely part of inner London, if you get a chance you should go if only to look at it, the capital is really too big and honestly you cannot go everywhere.nSadler's Wells for me an unconsummated love affair.nThe image I did by hand in photoshop, sans AI. Sort of an idea of how modern dancers sit while listening and getting directions from the likes of Twyla were on first name terms by now, something in the style of Paul Gauguin.nI hope you like it and my review.
Great theatre near Angel station. The shows are fab. Perhaps I didn’t appreciate that theatre maintenance fee was added to the tickets. However I do understand this is due to lack of gov support.nRegardless the show I watched was great and good visibility too
