I saw American Psycho here - this theatre's atmosphere is so rich, and the unique architectural elements of the space really added to the whole experience. Fantastic production value, fantastic view even in a relatively small space, and the show itself was worth every penny. Also, very affordable merch? Not sure if that is production determined or theatre based, but regardless, I was pleasantly surprised!
This is just really one of the top theatres in all of London. I’ve never seen a mediocre show here and they’re very daring with what they put on as well.. it’s the kind of place I love to take out of town visitors who have a taste for theatre because they will really revel in it as I do on a regular basis
Went to see American Psycho last night. The production was great but, the venue is not very accessibility friendly. There is no space dedicated for people like me who have issues with mobility.nWe were sat in the circle, and when asked for an easy route, there was none!!! Which I was shocked in this day and age. Also they have had a refurbishment, and it looks like this was not well thought out.nI had to struggle getting up the stairs and to my seat.nAlso the placement of the access toilet was ridiculous, and it was extremely hard getting to it, especially in the break. There should be some kind of person monitoring the crowd and assisting, especially at busy times.nThe look of the theatre and space looks good but, access routes, risk assessments for people like me should really be reviewed and if possible made easier.nThe seating is extremely awkward, as there is very limited leg room. And you have to share a seat with two other people. Also there are certain seats which are on the diagonal which are not good at all to sit in. I was sat next to someone in this space and it was very difficult.
The Almeida is one of the best producing theatres in London. Some of their shows go to the West End and Broadway.nnThey champion new work as well as bringing fresh perspectives to revivals.nnThe space is very flexible and can be a proscenium, of thrust, or even in the round, whatever is best for that particular play.nnThey don't shy away from controversial plays and musicals, so this is the place to go if you want to be challenged as well as entertained.nnTip: When you book seats downstairs it may say restricted view. That's because this is an old venue with poles holding up the balcony. As you can see in the picture there small and in my experience they don't really get in the way. If that bothers you the seats upstairs are excellent.
Great show, but the staff selling the merch should learn how to treat people.nShe was impatient from the moment I stepped up to the merch window, and she became increasingly impatient as I asked a few questions about the items. She also refused to exchange an item that was slightly damaged.nBeen to many theatres, this is the first time something like this has happened!
