Very disappointing stay at Premier Inn Colchester Town Centre.nnI’ve stayed at Premier Inns probably 50+ times over the years and have always generally been very happy, which is why this experience stood out so negatively. This was by far the worst Premier Inn I have stayed in regarding customer service.nnThe hotel itself was clean and tidy, so I cannot fault housekeeping. However, the service throughout the stay was genuinely awful.nnWe arrived around 10pm having booked a family room, only to find the spare bed for our daughter had not been made up and there was no bedding in the room. Reception was unattended and it took time to find anybody to help. Eventually I was handed bedding and had to make the bed myself late at night.nnThe room itself was also very noisy due to what sounded like loud air conditioning or ventilation, making it difficult to sleep properly. Despite Premier Inn heavily advertising its “Good Night Guarantee”, no compensation or goodwill gesture was offered at all.nnI would also add that in all my previous stays with Premier Inn, I have never once needed to raise concerns about sleep quality or ask for compensation because I have always genuinely had good experiences. This is not a case of someone simply trying to get a freebie — I have been a loyal customer for years and have consistently chosen Premier Inn because of the reliability and standards previously experienced.nnThe breakfast issue was really just the final straw in an overall poor experience. There was nowhere displaying breakfast times in the hotel. I checked online beforehand and saw breakfast listed until 11am, which matched my previous weekend stays with Premier Inn, so we arrived at 10:15am expecting breakfast to still be available. We were then told it had finished at 10am.nnAt no point during our stay did I see anyone present at reception. Whether arriving, trying to raise concerns, dealing with the breakfast issue, or even checking out the following morning, reception appeared unattended throughout.nnWhat made this even more disappointing was the handling of the complaint afterwards by head office. Their initial response even suggested some issues had not been raised during the stay, despite my original complaint clearly explaining this was because there was rarely anybody available in the hotel to speak to.nnAfter many previous positive stays, this experience — and the lack of care shown afterwards — has genuinely left me feeling let down as a customer, and I will not be returning.
Fairly decent hotel. Great location. The room was a little tired, but it did look like there was some renevation going on on the floor above me. Breakfast was excellent, really friendly staff.nnTake out was allowed to be eaten in my room which was convenient. You just have to collect it in the lobby.nnWould reccomend for solo travellers.
Nice hotel and staff. Only drawback is the parking, if you can't park on site you have to park at the NCP close by. If some people knew how to park it would be a easier but when you have a Mini taking up two spaces, a skip in one, generator in another and why so much room for disabled bays, unless they are expecting Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans??
We stayed in the Premier Plus room on the 2nd floor. This is a smashing hotel in a nice and perfectly quiet part of Colchester. Our room was really nice and quiet and plenty of room for the both of us, enough clothes facilities to utilise during our short couple of days break. Option to have a breakfast or evening meal as part of your stay, otherwise there are ample enough restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.
Very convenient for Colchester centre, but in a quiet location, which was good. Close to Castle. The air con was well appreciated in the recent heat wave and muggy nights and had one of the best night's sleep in ages!
