Perfect location for dinner on a Saturday night. Quiet, great tapas food, very friendly! Me and my friends went out for a meal without booking a table, so we were very lucky to find that the Blue Ivy Hotel had a free table. At first sight you wouldn't think they take bookings for non residents but to our joy they had a free table. Daniel (or Danny for the ladies😂) was a very entertaining host he kept us laughing the whole night. Thank you Daniel! The Tapas food was amazing! We asked Daniel to pick a good selection of plates for us, he certainly knows the menu well. We were all very pleased and left feeling comfortably full. Great wine menu, we also left comfortably drunk! Overall, a great location for a meal with friends and to skip the manic Saturday night rush. We will definitely visit again. Highly recommended! Thanks for reading~ Adam

What a cheek to even operate. Can't describe this place without insulting people so I won't bother.

Booked on Expedia. When we got there the General Manager said breakfast wasn't included even though we had booked it with breakfast. He wouldn't budge and even had the cheek to say we could have breakfast for £10 each because I'm a lady and he likes to keep the ladies happy. He said we should be satisfied that we got the room for half price. I told him that's not the point. If I book a room with breakfast, I expect it. He thought that constantly telling me how amazing the room was would make up for the lack of breakfast. The room was nice but small. No bath, only a wet room. Nicely furnished. Good location within town centre. Getting into the car park is extremely narrow. We just managed it in an Astra with our wing mirrors turned in. Be warned! The heating stopped working in our room while we were out. I had to sleep in two layers and a coat on a freezing cold night. I told the receptionist next day and he said I should have told the night porter and we could have changed rooms. I had come back to the room at midnight, got into bed and then noticed as I tried to sleep. My husband was still out. I could hardly change rooms when we had all our bags unpacked, my husband wasn't there, and I was in my pyjamas! Mainly, I didn't want to have to face another person patronising me. I expect there will be a response from the hotel making it look like this was all my issue and not theirs. That's how I was made to feel when I was there. It's a shame as it's a nice enough place.

Every single touch is considered down to a T with perfection. Yet the best hotel in Colchester and worth the price. Wonderful rooms, perfect for a visit to the town with a solid night sleep with black out curtains and no worry about the view. Great food.

This isnt a glowing review BUT.... I like this place and would definitely stay again. I'm not going to give details of what room I stayed in as I have a couple of grievances like the bathroom/room was cold, even though there was heating but it didn't heat the room up that much and Unfortunately i think the heating on a timer so when we woke up in the night it was really cold. We have a small SUV and getting into the car park is nerve wracking as we had to put the winh mirrors in or they would have been scratched (I love my Car) so I wouldnt have been pleased if I couldn't move my mirrors. Its an Old building and as an old building there are a few issues that old buildings have I didnt bother me as I understand that thats just what old building do. Breakfast was great, eggs are done to perfection. Apart from my issues of the heating an car park, its a very nice place, nicely decorated in-offensive. Will deffo stay again if ever in the area again.
