Story

Welcome to our newly refurbished 8 roomed guest house & Bar which was originally opened in 1733 and previously known as The Clarendon. We are family friendly & situated in a great position just 10 minutes walk from the historic town centre of Colchester.
Our guests can enjoy a relaxing drink in front of the open fire & then venture into town where there are numerous restaurants and bars to choose from. Our friendly staff are happy to advise & answer any questions about the local area.
We are situated approximately 35 miles from Stansted airport & 50 miles from London. We are Britain’s oldest recorded town & boast many historic buildings, countryside & coastline. There are plenty of places to visit with the children too, including Colchester Zoo, which is one of Europes finest.

It does the job. The room and service were fine (though unspectacular). I was attending a wedding at the hotel next door, so the location was excellent and the walk to the town centre was about 15 minutes or so. Check-in is from 4pm and the hotel is closed/unmanned until then, so you can't really drop your bags early. Bummer.

I come here regularly, and I can’t speak high enough, I’m always looked after well by the staff. Food is served on a Tuesday and Thursday. On nights when food is not served you can get food from the Chinese opposite and consume on the premises. The Karaoke is every other Friday. Also is very handy for Colchester United F.C and Colchester zoo.

A beautiful quintessential historical building, good pub style bar and a spooky haunted feeling. What's in room six I hear a voice in the corner ask haha

A good value bnb when the rest of the hotels in the area cost almost double. The room was clean, and had a good shower, and massive clean towels. We got a double room but the bed was quite small, no frills or thrills but got a good nights sleep. There was not much noise considering it was a Saturday night either.
