Story

University Hospital Lewisham is an acute district general hospital run by Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and serving the London Borough of Lewisham. It is now affiliated with King's College London and forms part of the King's Health Partners academic health science centre. It is situated on Lewisham High Street between Lewisham and Catford. The hospital offers a wide range of services including adult and children's Emergency Departments and specialist services including neonatology, paediatric surgery, cystic fibrosis treatment, haemophilia treatment and Ear Nose and Throat services. The hospital provides teaching and training for medical staff and gained university status in 1997. The Ladywell Unit on the premises is operated by the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. The hospital site has undergone several major alterations in recent years. The most recent was the completion of a major new treatment wing, Riverside, which was officially opened by Archbishop Desmond Tutu in May 2007. This building reflects current thinking about patient care, replacing Nightingale Wards with multiple four-bedded bays. The design also reflects contemporary environmental concerns and was the first major NHS building to generate a proportion of its own power using photovoltaic panels installed on the roof.

Initial experience at a&e was unorganized and unhelpful. It wasn’t busy but they couldn’t keep track of who was next in the xray queues. In contrast to this there was a woman called Honour who was very very helpful, caring and articulate. I would give her five stars - definitely the kind of person you want around when your sick and stressed - thank you
University hospital Lewisham is one of the best hospitals in England. My personal experience is that I'll never forget the care they gave me when I was in severe pain. Emergency department, Ambulatory Care unit and operation staff treated me well and humanely. All the staff were doing fabulous and philanthropic job. Doctors and nurses In Emergency department were very supportive and professional they relive my pain . Ambulatory Care unit staff especially doctor Harry, Dr Gosh, Dr. Gorove from anesthesia team sorry if I misspelled the name , staff nurse Lucy, and all the team are having loving, beautiful and human hearts Operation team and cedar ward staff is unparalleled . May Allah bless respected Dr. Burn and her team.. carry on
EPAU at Lewisham is the absolute worst NHS service. The bookings of a schedule appointment is pointless. I’ve been several times and not seen at the correct time frame. Yesterday I waited 4 hours to be seen with my young child with me. The staff are extremely rude, attitude was disrespectful and arrogant! And on top of that the past few weeks and Yesterday all different types of incorrect information passed from different staff claiming to be senior Doctors. I had to seek a second opinion by private doctors and nurses who agreed that all pregnancy are different. However Lewisham Early Pregnancy Unit are textbook only applying limited information not to mention incorrect. Prompting me to consider taking medication to induce a miscarriage, when no miscarriage signs available. They basically preempt premeditated diagnosis on a regular basis. Those that I watched going through a difficult time during miscarriages, begged for help and support just to be told your not in your country we deal with things differently here, go home and stop coming back because you are In pain. No pain relief, No sympathy, No respect, No caring nature whatsoever. I’m disgusted how I’ve been treated and how I’ve seen others treated. Lastly I watch a woman just out of theatre requesting to go to the toilet in a wheelchair. She went to the toilet the nurse pushing her around walked away typing on her phone and 2 people walked in on her in such a private moment limited mobility. The staff just do not care about the patients whatsoever!
Excellent and friendly staff in this public hospital. Especially many thanks to Dr. A. - GP in charge today, very friendly and competent. But all other nurses and receptionist personnel was extremely friendly and helpful too. I felt writing this rating was necessary since at first I tried going sw. else given the low average rating here.
It's an absolute joke even getting anywhere with the operators on the phone. I've been transferred 15 times now, 5 times to the same department which only gives you the option to leave a voice message no one ever replies to, the other times I've been hung up on or just left waiting for 15+ minutes until I gave up. THIS IS ONLY TO FIND OUT ABOUT AN APPOINTMENT I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT NOR IS IT ON THE NHS APP. How is it possible to be so incompetent? Not the first time I'm having a terrible experience there either. AVOID if you can.
I had nothing but disrespectful attitude from all of the "midwives " I nearly lost my baby son through sheer negligence my son was born by c section those staff were really lovely and caringwhen my child was born the so called midwifes who for some reason had a problem decided my partner and family members couldn't see my child until the next day!!I was told for many years I couldn't have children and I can't have anymore they took from me the most special memories I could have had and given me nothing but memories I'd rather forget!!! It was a bad enough experience for me to make a formal complaint they close ranks!!!! My son nearly died!!!!!!! I didn't want to be at this hospital in the first place!!give birth here at the risk of your baby's safety!!these people are dangerous!!doubt they allow this post they are very good at covering up and closing ranks!!!!
After being admitted to the hospital, I was initially really scared but Nurse Joanne Hall was incredible! Lovely bedside manner, Very calming and caring. Totally eased my fears and made me feel so much better. I had my young son with me and she even went out of her to make sure he was well and not worried about me. The way she ran the cdu2 completely in control was impressive, keeping the patients calm at all times and checking in regularly made me feel like I was being cared for properly. She definitely made a difference to my stay, my pain and my anxiety. Lovely Nurse
The signage is apalling here. Make sure you get there early as I had to ask several staff members directions before finding the department I was looking for. Cannot fault the staff and doctors, very helpful and friendly. The toilets were filthy and overall presentation of the hospital was dirty, messy and litter everywhere. Did not see 1 person cleaning while i was there for 4 hours.
I don't know where to start but I have to do it from somewhere. On the 18th of April I had a planned thyroid surgery and I was a bit scared as I had two not so good experience at this hospital previously. On March I got a call after one year on waiting where the lady on the other side of the phone offered me a date for my surgery. As it had been too long suffering from the thyroid I was more than happy to accept it. Done what I had to do with everything and the date came. I had to go for the surgery on the Orange zone and was gonna have the surgery with doctor Leroy. But before that I had to wait for few hours for my turn. Please let me tell what a wonderful nurses and doctors they were. I have a one year old baby and they let him into the ward in a separate room so I could breastfeed him. Thank you soo much as that kindness gave me strength for the later procedure. To the nurse who helped me a loott I'm so sorry but I forgot your name now,but if you read this,I'm very grateful to you and your colleagues. Regarding the team at the theater, they were very brave, kind and one of the best team of doctors I had the chance and luck to have a surgery this was my 7nth surgery and hope is the last. The same goes for the staff on the same zone and the Pink Zone. This time I was speechless and very happy with everything. Thank you for everything you did for me and for everything you do for us. You are truly heroes.
Even tho explaining the situation regarding me fall, hurts to sit and they just ignored the fact I can't sit for long with this pain but oh well to me I guess. health not important. Even tho. Greatful for the cab thank you, but I have never seen a cab driver that didn't help some, he watched me struggling with my crutch and other belongings. No help with doors getting in or out, hit every speed bump going. Goes to show I'm not worth being treated like a person and neither is my mental health. So I got to sit here and now wait in pain even tho they was told. Lewisham hospital is a nightmare. Damaged hip but and back but it's not serious enough or you just don't want to easy people's pains but no you ignore that. This is not the first time with you guys treating horribly. The way I'm trying not to have an anxiety attack, should of stayed at home and suffered. So I dropped twisted my ankle with led to this but you only x-ray the thigh. But I said foot to hip hurting bearing in mind it would have glass in it. But apparently even tho I have a letter for a foot x-ray he didn't do it told me go upstairs for it. Lewisham hospital always happy to leave people deformed, wait 8 hours, only for him to observe but no touch. so now your just guessing the issue I'm definitely not safe in this hospital. I don't like when doctors assume just do your job properly. Time to suffer at home in pain rather then come here. Ps you like to leave glass in peoples quite a bit without removal.
