Story

Rising from the success of prize winning restaurant Karnavar; Manoj Karnavar continues his love affair with real traditional Indian cuisine by opening Kalpa.

The sociable and informal Kerala canteen and deli style restaurant offers swift casual Indian dining and is open for quick lunches and informal dinner throughout the week.

Serving a menu that combines the light and healthy eating menus of Kerala and Sri Lanka, Manoj’s South Indian cookery focuses on the use of coconut and the fresh flavours from the land, seas and backwaters of the southern tip of India carefully spiced.

As is typical in the kitchens of South India, Manoj escapes the use of conventional ghee, butter and cream in his fast paced restaurant in favour of coconut milk and oils resulting in a delicate, healthy, clean eating menu.

The restaurant name Kalpa was inspired by the Hindu word Kalpavriksha; The Coconut Tree, a divine tree of which every part is used in India.

The name Kalpa also gives a nod to the convenience of the swift and timely manner in which Manoj and the team at Kalpa serve every diner as they redefine healthier “fast-er-food”.

It's a small, no frills place but the food is from God's own country. The spice is perfect and the taste is something worth traveling for. Even though the place has a long list of takeaways and in house clients to deal with it, the servers are absolutely calm and collected. Be prepared to wait long for your order to arrive at your table but it's worth the wait.
Situated on London Road, walkable from Mayday hospital, is this little joint which we’ve frequented for years. The taste has always been the same, not a big hole in the pocket and easily caters to a very hungry tummy. Here are some dishes tried and tested that’s our family favourite -fresh lime soda, fish biryani the best, Kerala parotta, mussel roast and Sardine fry. A definite ‘yes’ if you want to try simple KERALA cuisine.
The best taste of India restaurant, I always come here with my family and friends. Parota and anchovies fry are my favourite, this time I had mutton curry with kappa which was amazing goes with Cobra perfectly. I am not sure about lady's name I think Maria she is very kind and helpful always with smile and red lipstick The interior of the restaurant isn't superb but I didn't care for that when I know the food is amazing. I have tried so many restaurant but went home with full stomach and satisfaction only foem Kerala restaurant! Thank you all Team!
Awful presentation, food was packaged unprofessionally in crumpled foil boxes leaking with oil. Horrible tasting kothu dishes, burnt Gobi Manchurian. Bland noodles topped with excess pepper. Hard and chewy chicken lollipop. Moreover the order came 30 mins late. Terribly disappointed with the food of taste of Kerala. It’s not worth the money.
Delicious Indian food. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Croydon. Most authentic Kerala food you can find anywhere in London for sure. Very friendly staff here and customer service is amazing.
Inconsistent quality of food, sometime the the food is decent, but most times, your better off going else where, got a chicken biriyani and it was plain rice with chicken and all the spices in like a ball on one side £6.00 for plain rice a chicken drumstick. A month later I ordered and waited for 2 hours before food was ready. And when I went to eat it found plastic a piece in my food.
Great little family run gem. Polite owners and real Kerala taste. Been there few times. They also serve drinks. Might have to book in advance if going on weekend.
Food was okay but service was worst especially the lady who shows attitude and don't respect customers. While we eating she shows bad attitude to one of the customer who asks more spicy in fish. She doesn't know how to behave and taste was not that much paying money. It is a average hotel. I won't recommend to anyoneFood: 3/5
Food is okay, kindly don’t expect good service, service and behaviour of staff is average
The food was beyond my expectations at a reasonable price. It's a must try
