Pizza Express

The pizza was horrendous, the worst pizza I have ever eaten at a restaurant. It was tasteless, overdone and worst of all it was FROZEN. I still can't believe that we paid £40 with my partner to eat frozen pizza. We could have bought one from Sainsburys for a fraction of the price. This was the second time we went there by the way, the first time the pizza was bad too but we thought we should give them another chance as we have been to other Pizza Express restaurants and they were good. Service was poor too. It took them around 30 minutes to serve us, maybe our pizza was stuck deep inside the freezer and they had difficulty getting it out...We told the waitress (who was lovely) that our pizza was awful and we asked her if it was frozen to which she replied that "she didn't know" (?!). She said that she was going to let her manager know immediately. She then came with the bill and confirmed that she had informed her manager about the situation although he never bothered to come and talk to us. He obviously didn't care. Or maybe he just didn't want to confirm that the pizza was indeed frozen. The strange thing is that I have been to a Pizza Express restaurant in West London and the food there was amazing. I had assumed that all Pizza Express restaurants serve the same food but they obviously don't! This particular Pizza Express in Croydon is an embarrassment to the franchise. The only reason I'm giving 2 starts instead of 1 is that the atmosphere is quite nice and relaxing. But that's obviously not enough to make me go there ever again.

The staff at this particular branch are really great and have been accommodating on a number of occasions. The food is as you'd expect but that is to say pretty decent - I've certainly had worse pizzas in Italy!

The food was great, although took bit of time getting it. The place itself was clean and brightly lit. They had forgotten our starter but the staff apologised and quickly ordered it again for us. Overall a pleasant experience, and would return.
