This is the first time I've ever given a five star review. This is without a doubt the best hostel I've ever stayed at, for so many reasons. The rooms are cheap, and you get what you pay for having to share the room with strangers. But this is much better than any other hostel even at twice the price. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful. Great location close to the tube and many nearby restaurants and stores. Free breakfast, not great but much much better than nothing I had tea, juice and toast with jam, worked fine. Wifi everywhere. The showers are much better than hostel standard, and I never found them to be too cold as some others have posted, they were just perfect. The fuse by my bed broke when I was here, and the staff was fantastic at fixing it right away. They have strict rules for orderly conduct at the hostel, and they seem to follow up on it since everyone was extremely well behaved. I have absolutely no negative comments. As long as I can't afford a private hotel room, this is where I'm staying while in London.
Pros: Excellent location and super friendly staff, good breakfast included. Cons: bed bugs. I am literally covered in bites. One of the other guests said they did a 'deep clean' in this room a few days prior because of a bed bugs complaint. There's no deep clean that can get rid of bed bugs, other than replacing the mattresses. So crammed with zero floor space for bags in the rooms.. in this room there were mostly long term guests there for a few weeks, and the room was a total disgusting mess. The floors were gross. I don't think any cleaning had been done in here.
Located right next to King's Cross station, this is an ideally placed hostel. Which is probably the best thing it has going for it. Stayed here for two nights in a twin room with my travel companion. Room consisted of a twin bed, safe, small table and chair, small TV and a window. It was tight, as was the rest of the place, not a big deal but people who travel with a lot of or big luggage might have a tough time. "Breakfast" consists of toast a variety of jams and coffee and tea. Bathrooms and Showers are shared, clean, small and limited stalls. There is a kitchen and bar although I did not make use of them. Staff is friendly but everything is pretty much self service. Price is relatively cheap when talking about London. All in all its very average but your milage may vary...
Very friendly staff, made us feel very welcome from the moment we walked in the door. Good atmosphere in common room with Movies and board games etc and plenty of friendly people hanging out there. There's a cool cat that is resident there which we loved missing our pets at home. Room was a little small on the floor space side of things, but the bed was comfortable and private with curtains and power plugs and a lamp inside every bunk.
I mean, I'm here for the rest of the week when I got this review request. It's alright. If it was a hot week it would be miserable. The fridge is filled from the people who stay here long term so that really blows. They could use a bit more space for other guests. The staff is nice, the bed is comfy and the pillow is good. Location is great as well. The food and the kitchen are my only negatives.
Overall, considering you pay a low price, this hostel is fine. Clean beds, close to the underground, and decent service with nice people. What I don't like though, are the toilets. There is always enough toilet paper, which is good, but there are only 2 men's toilets available, one of which is really low, and the other one's door is really hard to close as you have to maneuver yourself in such awkward position to close the door.
Staff was nice and helpful, but worst hostel experience so far. Room had strong body odor with just 5 people sharing. It had 4 stacks of bunks with only 2 ladders. Seemed to attract inconsiderate, anti-social guests. Place looks run down. Very cheap, but not worth the price.
I stayed here with my friend 03/2014 and, yeah, it is what you paid for. But I loved it. Atmosphere was incredible and there were safety lockers you could use. If you are not so picky and love a little adventure, this is what you are looking for! Oh and the room we stayed was the biggest dorm, no the most interesting room there!
The toilets are the worst part. The rooms are small but OK. Location is good. As many budget hostels in London, there are people staying there for long term so the kitchen is a bit taken by these people. i.e.: the fridge and freezer were completely full and not really clean the same with the kitchen stuff.
Good location: 2 minutes walk to king's cross station, 15-20 minutes to Camden town walking along the canal. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The kitchen decently equipped and the bed comfortable. Showers/bathrooms were quite clean and good pressure for the shower.
