"Once an Ashwellian, always an Ashwellian" I am grateful to say I have spent the past year at this accommodation during my studies in London. The term "accommodation" doesn‘t cover what Ashwell really is - because it is so much more than that! Almost every day, you get different activities organised by people in Ashwell. For example, during exam season we had a productivity group in our library. Ashwell also hosts events such as Barbecues during summer and formal dinners during the festive season. Besides that, Ashwell offers services such as laundry and room cleaning, which is included in the bill! Not having to worry about these things really gave me the time and energy to focus on my studies. Ashwell has a terrace, a library, a small kitchen for students, study rooms on each floor, a tea room and a huge hall with a stage and a grand piano for everyone to use. I am SO grateful to the team in Ashwell, because they have made my time in London feel like home.
I had the pleasure of staying at Ashwell House for three years, and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Situated just an 8-minute walk from Old Street Station and conveniently close to a bus stop, Ashwell is in an ideal location for students attending several London universities. The facilities at Ashwell are excellent, offering residents access to a library, study rooms, a terrace, a sitting room, and a beautiful main hall. The inclusion of laundry services and room cleaning adds to the convenience. The rooms themselves are always clean and well-maintained. What truly sets Ashwell House apart is its exceptional management team. They are incredibly helpful, friendly, and go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and special as possible. Ashwell really lives up to its reputation as a “home away from home.” The sense of community fostered here is remarkable. During my time at Ashwell, I’ve had the opportunity to make lasting friendships with people from all over the world and learn about different cultures. The staff regularly organize activities such as resident-led dinners featuring international cuisine, BBQs, Halloween parties, movie nights, and game nights, all of which contribute to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Overall, I would highly recommend Ashwell House to anyone looking for a homely place to stay during their studies. It’s a perfect choice for those who value community, comfort, and a great location.
I’ve had an amazing experience living at Ashwell House. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of London, making it easy to explore the city and get to my classes quickly. What truly sets Ashwell House apart is the sense of community – it really feels like a second family. Every day here is exciting, with plenty of activities and events that keep things interesting. Whether it's a game night, a cultural event, or just hanging out in the common areas, there's always something to do. The diverse mix of international students adds to the vibrant atmosphere, making it a unique place to live. Ashwell House is truly a home away from home, providing not just a place to stay, but a supportive and lively community. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable student living experience in London!
Ashwell was such a unique uni accommodation - I stayed here for my second and third years and had a really good time! There are regular activities, volunteering and trips away which you don't get at normal accommodations 1st year uni halls were....an experience. It's in a good location for a range of London unis and has direct bus lines and underground station which makes it very accessible. I'd really recommend applying here if you're looking for a community based accommodation~!
I loved living in Ashwell the 9 months that I lived there, I truly felt like I was at home. Everyone is so welcoming, you make long lasting friendships from around the world, and you get to meet new people. The house is so big and has many facilities that you’re able to study in your own room or one of the many studies in the house, you have a gym with some equipment, you’re able to cook your own food at the kitchenette, you can enjoy a good day on the roof terrace, and visit the oratory for some time with God. Ashwell House became my home away from home and I’ll always recommend it to people, it’s impossible not to have a good time there.
Two years at Ashwell House was a blessing. It is much more than just a halls of residence; you find yourself in a community of friends and mentors that feel like a big family. The location, so close to Angel Islington is wonderful for weekly living, it is walkable to many big attractions in the city, and the travel connections are super convenient with close tubes, and only a 35 min walk from St Pancreas for a wider range of trains! The staff are on hand for all sorts of worries, concerns and needs- and facilities in the house are kept to the highest standards of cleanliness which makes for a peaceful and calm environment. The essence of the house is one of warmth and joy. There are many events on throughout the year, times for discussion, relaxation and celebration welcome to all but ofc optional, and spiritual activities such as Mass and retreats for those interested again all welcome, but optional. In Ashwell you will find many a place to focus and study, and also to chill when exams are over. You’ll have the opportunity to make international friends that hope to last a lifetime. All this whilst situated in central to all that London has to offer. So unlike other student halls, couldn’t recommend enough.
Ashwell house provided me with the perfect foundations for moving to London, the environment and people around you create a cosy home away from home that makes moving to a big city such as London far less daunting. Definitely recommend!
I lived in Ashwell House for 3 years 2015-2018 and I had the best experience! Ashwell is a unique University Hall of Residence for many reasons. Below are a few... 1 Central location - close to the majority of London universities 2 The Hall is cleaned every weekday, and meals and a laundry service are all included in the cost of the accommodation for a VERY reasonable price for such a central location. 3 The atmosphere is very pleasant and it's easy to find people you get along with - during shared meals and daily get-togethers 4 With a library and many study rooms, you find a great motivation to study hard 5 There are regular cultural activities such as having guest-speakers, concerts, trips, service projects etc. I had the chance to visit Rome, and took part in a volunteering project in Kenya! 6 The staff are friendly, warm and easy to approach for anything you may need
Ashwell is a great place for women to come and live whilst studying at university. The Catholic ethos of the halls is manifest in the lasting friendships made among young women of all faiths and none.
Best place to spend your student life in London!!
