The outside looks like a prison.... Inside reception and bar area are nice. Shame about the staff and the rooms!! Staff seemed like they were not bothered. Rushed the check in process. Got to our room and it was awful. The room just looked dusty and dated. The bathroom was extremely small. Have to have the door closed to even have a chance of moving around in there. Don't think you can get 2 people in there because you cant!! The bed was the worst bed I have ever slept on. I made this clear in the morning at reception and the lady wasn't bother at all!!!! It was about a 10 min drive from the City Centre which was good. The best thing about this hotel was leaving it.nnThe money I paid was extremely over priced considering how bad the room is.
Lovely room, clean and the bed was very comfy. Excellent for my partner doing Parkrun on Saturday morning although there wasn’t much left of the Continental breakfast at 9:45. Staff were friendly and there’s an excellent bus service to the city! All good and we had good nights sleep for our days of exploring the city!
Over £200 a night for rooms that look like they haven't been updated since the 90's, weird stains on the chairs, carpet and walls, no fridges in the standard rooms, shower that drips due to almost no pressure, be careful when booking theough booking.com as we booked a standard room and it came with two single beds, we may have overlooked this at the time of booking, manager was nice enough to refund us £50 on hearing about our experience which whittles the price down to 370 for the 2 nights, not much but it is something.nLocation is nice enough and 10 minutes from the centre by taxi
Just what we wanted. Somewhere to stay and breakfast. Rooms are very clean, and everything we needed, as we were out all day. The only thing missing was a loo brush and a couple of blankets, unless staff put them into rooms for the autumn/winter but it would be nice to have an option as health sometimes needs a bit more warmth, we could have asked if we had really needed them. Staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was always good. I wasn't so keen on the evening meals. But ate out most of the time, as we were still sightseeing. We parked the car at the holiday Inn and took the bus each day into town, as it was so much easier, and it was just at the top of the road. And only £2 each way. Well happy at this, not having to worry about car parking in the city, as it was very busy.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn on Tadcaster Road for 4 days / 5 nights.nnInitially impressions were the lobby, restaurant and bar areas were all really modern, and to the standard you’d expect of somewhere with an overall rating of 4 star on Google search.nnWhen it comes to the hotel rooms themselves though.. As others have said, one word that describes them is: tired.nn2010 stylings and furnishings with random bits of furniture a table with no chairs were in my room - kind of felt like a bit of a dumping ground for things they had nowhere else to store.nnThe bed was disappointing; an old mattress with a worn dip on one side, led me to double up the duvet on one side to “fill” the groove. Ok for a solo traveller but not for a couple.nnShower room was small definitely not for two people; fixtures were ok, shower itself was decent and overall clean.nnFood at the hotel was overpriced and average. I paid £18 for a standard burger and fries the first night but decided to eat out after that. The breakfast was good, a wide choice and a quality standard but again overpriced.nnI had a good holiday but this was somewhat marred by the hotel room given the place is advertised as a 4 star - tired furnishings, decor and a poor mattress really let the room down, subsequently my sleep wasn’t great either for the 5 nights I was here.nnI wouldn’t choose to stay here again and will book at a competitor closer to the centre at the additional cost when I visit York in the future. Though not super far out of the city centre, a walk is 40 mins, it’s far away enough to represent a bit of effort getting to York city centre especially if you have a young family or accessibility issues. You’re then reliant on taxis and that can be costly.nn@Management, I appreciate you’ll reply to this with a generic form of response as you have the others to keep “transparent”. But don’t just pay lip service, listen to your user feedback. Clearly your rooms need reviewing in terms of their stylings, lay outs and furnishings - people won’t put up with old mattresses and ground swell in relation to reviews will eventually mean you don’t have a choice to change, so sooner the better.
