A good value clean and tidy hotel. It is located in a quiet location in easy walking distance to the centre. The 10 metre swimming pool is decent as are the changing rooms. I would definitely stay here again. Rooms: The rooms are a good size, clean and in generally good maintenance. The only real downside I found was the firm bird which was not very comfy. Nearby activities: There's a lot to do within walking distance. York minster, jorvik viking centre, the city walls the castle museum are all near by. There are lots of restaurants, shops and pubs. The closest pub to the hotel, the Volunteer arms was excellent with plenty of seating, very well kept beer and a great selection of drinks Walkability: A huge amount of activities are within walking distance. A car is not necessary. Food & drinks: There's standard tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. The breakfasts on offer are pretty good value. It's standard stuff, cereal, fruit full English including a vegetarian and vegan version etc. The meat version has a good quality sausage and bacon. The vegetarian version has a bubble and squeak style sausage and you get extra tomatoes. The Tom's and mushrooms are fresh and the toast is thick cut.
Little walk into town so excellent location. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Pleasant fresh smell in hotel and room. Hairdryer, fan, television available. Lots of plug points for charging phones etc. Would highly recommend.Rooms: 5/5
Wow if you want a friendly , clean and comfortable hotel then this is the one. Our room was lovely and the breakfast was hot and very tasty. When I come back to this part of the country this is where I will choose to stay. First classRooms: 5/5
Staff are lovely. Rooms good size. Bed comfy, Shower hot. Only thing really is that I feel it needs a real deep clean. Some beautiful art work in the hallwaysRooms: 4/5
This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. It is only because there were not other options that I did not immediately walk out and ask for a refund. I would have tried to wash my self clean if my only option hadn't been a bathroom that was old, dirty and useless. The rooms are very old and tired and the whole place feels like it hasn't been done up or cleaned properly in 30 years. It is really a terrible place and should not be in the Best Western chain. Whilst I waited for a room I sat on the terrace next to a crisp bag with a dirty nappy in it. Once I got to the room it was awful. the window is tiny and everything felt dirty. The bathroom was disgraceful. Everything was old and dirty. Nothing really works like it should in a modern day hotel and this is a relic of a really awful time of cheap hotels in the past. The bed was two singles pushed together and sold as a double at £175 a night when I stayed!, the pillows were thin and horrid, there is a tiny TV and really awful lighting. There is no room service to really speak of. There is nothing nice in your room, if you want coffee etc the is a communal station in the hallway. It is in an annoying part of town but luckily York is small enough to walk around easily. It gets one star from me because two things were good, the people were nice enough and the internet worked well; also there is no way to give zero stars on a rating. Honestly do not stay here, it is really a terrible place which should have been renovated over a decade ago. Do yourself a favour and stay literally anywhere else in York!
Nice hotel for a weekend trip to York. Rooms are okay, clean and comfortable although a little noisy but we only used it for sleeping in. Bus stop across the road or a short 15 minute walk into York centre. Staff are very welcoming and helpful.Rooms: 4/5
Needs a good refresh and makeover. My wife and I erupted in bites a week after our stay. Not possible to prove but seems most likely to have come from the bed in room 18. The timing fits and there is no other event that would explain it.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating at all times. Breakfast was lovely after a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed and pleasant room.
The staff were SO friendly. The breakfast was delicious. The beds were very comfy. And the swimming pool was lovely. We had the pool to ourselves for an hour before bed and first thing in the morning and my kids loved it! It's a easy walk from the station and some good restaurants. I'd love to stay here again
It’s a pretty run down hotel. The pool changing rooms are absolutely freezing, even in a heatwave.
