I booked this hotel for a last minute break away with my family. After booking, I read the reviews and was really anxious about staying. What can I say? The rooms were clean, the bedding was fresh, and there was body/hand wash in the bathroom. The hotel is dated but look at the age of the building! I was very pleasantly surprised. The communal areas were well kept and pleasant. All in all a lovely stay. The staff on reception were lovely too. They gave us extra milk with no hassle at all. For the price you pay, don’t expect 5 star but I’ve certainly stayed in a lot worse places. We checked in after 6.30pm and parked straight away at the front. Don’t believe all the negative reviews.
Easy check in, staff were good and helpfull. Breakfast was really good and staff serving were all excellent. Guy in the bar fab. Room was cleanly decorated but the carpet was disgusting. Room stunk of cigarettes and a dank odour so had to buy air freshener. Windows were filthy and could not be seen out of. Plenty of hangers for clothes. Stayed 5 nights room not cleaned once and no clean towels over the 5 days. If you are hoping for luxury then not the place for you. If you just want a base to kip at the end of the day with a good breakfast that is reasonably priced then this is an average place and worth consideration. The bed was comfy the quilt however had no cover on. Hope but this helps anyone thinking of booking.
Come for the iconic hotel, faded beauty and charm, with unimpeded sea views, and you'll be content. Come for a luxurious hotel experience and you'll be disappointed. Undeniably run down there's still a lot to like here. Room was clean but shabby, there was no lamp! Just the full ceiling light. We couldn't really see through the windows to see the sea view as they were quite opaque. Bed comfy, bathroom perfectly fine. Staff were fine if approached in a friendly manner. You have to pay extra to stay after 10am in the morning, but that didn't stop the cleaning staff banging on the door at 10 anyway. They shut off your key card whatever you do at 10am, so if you exit the room you need to find some staff to let you back in. It's cheap and it's a beautiful hotel, come for the right reasons and enjoy it.
We thought we'd give it a go as it was only for one night. All the bad reviews are right though! We up graded to an executive room with a sea view. If you was standing up! The window was at chest height. The room was very small 2.5m × 3.5 with very dated and scratched furniture, stained carpet. And didn't have a pleasant smell. The bathroom had hairs on the floor. And no bath towel. If this was executives ????? .... I feel sorry for the staff because their hands are tied......Britannia hotels. Sort it out.
Awful experience!!! Me and mum came from Manchester to stay in a sea view room, in which we was really excited to see whoever our 'sea view' was a brick wall with a dead bird outside on the floor. Our room was on the lower ground which made us feel claustrophobic, we decided to just carry on and enjoy our mini break. However things went down hill from there the bath/shower didnt work, the toilet didnt flush. The heating never came on. I asked two different members of staff at reception to please sort out the heating in which I was told it was on timer. Myself and mum had to buy extra blankets and wear jumpers in the room. It was warmer in the corridors then it was in the room. Also when in our room we could hear members of staff in another room being highly inappropriate making rude remarks and swearing, this is not a nice environment to be in. The room was that bad we lefted a day early, we couldn't stand being in there any longer. We was booked Friday 28th till Monday 31st. The room cost us £240. So much money for an awful cold experience! Such a disappointing experience definitely wouldn't recommend
Absolutely not worth the price! We paid £300 for 2 nights 2 rooms. Parking is £5 per night per car and is NOT guaranteed in which you have to go over the road at £13 every 24 hours. WiFi does not reach the hotel rooms. The rooms are disgusting. There were stains all over the walls. The windows haven’t been cleaned for years. The curtains were broke and falling off. Our bathroom door didn’t even close. I actually felt disgusting sleeping / washing there and if I wasn’t there with all family then I wouldn’t have stayed an hour. Considering the price they charge you would think the hotel would have upgraded or improved! The only reason we stayed here is because everywhere else was fully booked! Never again unless the price was reduced by 80%!! I wouldn’t complain if it wasnt such a ridiculous price for nothing!
Well building was nice from outside. We walked in room questioned myself did we spend money on this room? This is the one they letting people in for this much money? Absolutely disgrace. Curtains were worn out falling apart. Bathroom had no cleaning supplies soap etc. Carpet was past best date by million of years. Shower door won't shut or open if force shut. We were asked to clock out by 10 but were locked out 9.30. clock out by 10 doesn't make sense to us as our car could have stayed there till 12 as told by staff.??? Avoid at all cost by my experience rather go to small family owned place or big brand.
This hotel was a dump , the walls paper was peeling of the walls the carpets where coming up and the bed sheets where ripped. There were unidentified stains on the pillow cases and duvet , the toilets looked as though it had never been cleaned before and the sides where sticky. The food was not at all appetising and the hotel itself smelt of eggs
The hotel room was clean -that's the good part. It was a very small room facing on to a busy road and the noise from the road was very loud, even with the window shut. You can tell that this used to be a nice hotel 30 off years ago but I'm afraid that the whole place is on dire need of renovation. All the carpets look dirty as they are so old and the fixtures and fittings are also in need of replacement. Luckily we paid a very small amount for our one night stay. In future I'd pay more and expect a better standard of hotel.
Check in was quick and simple with no hassle, although parking was extremely difficult with very tight and over crowded car park that wasn't exclusive for guest use and a £5 per night charge. We had a room on the lower ground floor and the corridors had a strange smell and a very low ceiling and low hanging signs. The room itself was spacious and clean with a nice jet bath and easily controlled shower, although no soap or shower gel was provided. The view from the window was awful with very small mouldy windows with a view of scaffolding and a overgrown ditch and brick wall. The majority of the staff were very helpful and polite with breakfast service very swift and smooth with all needs catered for. The breakfast food was very high quality with minimal fuss from the staff. Overall I would say the price was a little more than it was worth and the checkout time was the very early time of 1000.
