"We are a small independent restaurant in the heart of Ambleside.Dodds Restaurant has been a staple of the town going back into the early 1900s.We took ownership in 2008 after various owners and decided to lift it up to its best that it has ever been with the aim to keep its heritage as a over 100 year old Restaurant. We have done this by using the best quality ingredients locally and from further if cannot be sourced in the Lake District. We have built up a reputation over 15 years of being consistent and evolving with our food and service."
Stand out were the pizza ingredients, you could taste they were supreme quality. No stinging out on the portion sizes either, I asked for chicken to be added as a topping and it was covered in thick juice chicken breast. Superb. Also if I'm being critical not enough tomato base. The lobster ravioli was very good although very heavy. The main reason why it's marked down to 4 stars was because from being seated to leaving the restaurant was under 25 minutes. This was for me a new record.
Stumbled across Dodds whilst looking for somewhere to eat for tea in Ambleside and what a gem to find. Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff paired with delicious food and wine. Highly recommend. The pizzas were especially nice
You can't book a table here, but although it was busy we got a table. The food arrived very quickly after ordering. It was really tasty. I had the mushroom pizza with truffle oil which was delicious. My husband had a toastie that came with freshly made pesto that he absolutely raved about. Well worth a visit.
Didn’t expect decent food in such a tourists filled town but the food is lovely. We ordered a pizza and a pasta and they’re both very tasty. Good portion and reasonable price.
Visited on a very busy Bank Holiday. No tables do they took our number and called when was available which was great as everywhere else was just turning people away. Food and drinks served very quickly, food was delicious and reasonably priced. Bill.brpught to us quickly once we asked for it and friendly staff. Would definitely visit again. Vegetarian options: A number of good veggie options.
We came in, sat at the table by the window behind the main entrance, and then the fun began... We ordered a starter, Garlic Bread with Mozzarella. Then, for the main course, we had an amazingly tasty and to die for Breaded Chicken Breast, which came with Rocket Salad, Parmesan, Creamy White Sauce, and some Tagliolini... For desert, we had Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream and Spiced Honey Panna Cotta, which looked and tasted amazing. I can not express how amazing the service was. I would rate 10/10 if I could. We sat down at 17:05ish and had our starters about ten or 15 minutes later.. Shortly after that, we had our mains. We ended up staying there for almost two hours and enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for making our first ever trip to the Lake District, fulfilling and welcoming. I will definitely come again and recommend to everyone I know.
I had a really great experience in Dodds. My parents are familiar with the area and planning on moving nearby and the staff are super friendly in here. The service was quick and the range of items on the menu is great they have lots of choice. The pizza was thin in the middle part with a thick crust but wasn’t dry like most other places. The pasta my dad had also looked delicious definitely something to try again next time. My only criticism is the coke was very small.
Lovely Italian restaurant with good quality, home cooked food and some inspired recipes! Very welcoming and friendly staff too, super accommodating to all guests. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for some beautiful Italian food.
Really friendly service, an authentic Italian atmosphere and wonderful food. Only marked down ever so slightly because we both had the Philly cheese steak sandwich and were a little disappointed at the lack of beef which seemed to actually be mince. Would go again though as the food being served to others also looked deliciousFood: 4/5
