That’s as good as fish and chips get.!! Bravo Fish was flaky, chips were Perfect and the gravy was superb.!! Could not be happier or more full… Keep up the good work I will be back.!! Knowledge and experience shines here.. well done
lovely fish and chips, crispy thick batter, flaky fish. Chips not soggy as suggested by someone before. Gravy was beautifully thick and tasty. Atmosphere in the shop when I went in was great, comfortable chairs to sit and wait and I had a lovely conversation with an older fella in there, I was almost disappointed when my food was ready : Will definitely be visiting again when back in Ambleside.
Really nice traditional fish and chips, served fully fresh and hot, in a solid cardboard box.
Visited as eat in with my parents today. Friendly service. Adorable lady serving. Fish was cooked perfectly. Fish and chips were awesome. Fantastic experience all rounded actually x
Upon ordering fish and chips for two the friendly assistant quoted a 9 minute wait which indicated freshly fried fish, always a good sign. Opening the box there was a lot of fat along the crease that quickly solidified. The chips were a little pale and though a bit greasy tasted ok, the fish looked to be a decent size and was a nice colour and crispy on the outside but unfortunately the inside of the batter was lined with a thick layer of yellow mush , not sure what causes this , is it too much flour? Oil? Not cooked long enough? Either way it's very unpalatable, the fish itself tasted ok but was far too greasy for our liking. Hard to recommend based on this experience.
Not recommended, only one type of pie out of five on the list and that had been reheated a few times, the crust was rock hard. The fish and chips were oily and fish thick with batter. Won't go there again. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access wide door
Only joking. Truck driver here, went for a stroll after id parked nearby for the night and found this place. Fish n chips were smashing. Staff were sound, cooked to perfection. Stop adding reviews to shame a business amd get a reaction. It's someone's livelihood. From a nice troll, I mean trucker! If I'm ever In the area again, will be sure to be back. .
Popped in tonight to pick up fish and chips and can’t fault the service and friendly manor from the couple behind the counter . We ordered cod and chips and battered sausage and they were lovely ,
I was enticed by the £5 mini fish and chips takeaway, but once I entered I ordered a large fish and chips for £7.95 and I didn't regret it - big portions enough for two. Batter was light and flavourful, almost like tempura. The inner batter was kind of mushy which I liked because it was a contrast in texture. The fish was smooth and firm yet not dry. Really delicious, although slightly on the greasier side, especially the chips . Their pies were tasty and affordable.
Our choice to visit here was partly based on our northern appreciation for the handling of responses to reviews by the legendary Gary. We were not disappointed. Our shipping order was cooked afresh while we waited and our party of six more than amply fed. I opted for the cod which was a lovely size fillet perfectly cooked in a light batter, lovely soft flaky fish. Given we are at the end of the old potato season yes, I consider myself a chip connoisseur the chips were well cooked, tasty, and not greasy. Will certainly return later in the year and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Hats off to honest folk running a business in the most trying of times.
