Great bike shop. Good value, good service, lovely guy. A cog on my rear derailleur snapped off the other day. I took it him - he fixed it on the spot for free!

Good guy who will get on with it cheaply and efficiently, especially with older models.

Really good if you've an inexpensive (mountain) bike that needs something basic doing. They'll sort it out quickly and cheaply. If you need a gear/brake set up, the guy here is perfectly competent and, as the name suggests, you won't be charged over the odds. I've been happy with them tinkering with my bike before and servicing/replacing brake and gear cables. If, however, you have a bike that needs a bit more attention and cost a little more, I'd recommend you invest in taking it to another shop. The guys here put a new cassette on the back of my road bike and absolutely fudged it (and, I discovered later, charged me a lot for the components). The gears weren't alligned and the rear mech and hangar came back damaged where it looked like they'd tried to force it off when it wouldn't unscrew easily. I ended up having to take to it elsewhere (Strada) to have the problems rectified - so ended up paying twice. TL;DR: Good for your cheapo bikes and small jobs, probably not worth asking them to work on anything expensive.

Took my bike here to have the rear tyre replaced; on a hub-gear bike this is quite a skilled operation and many cycle shops won't touch these, but this fellow said he was willing to have a go. About a week after the job was done, a component of the rear hub came loose and rattled continuously around the housing. I think anyone would think it reasonable to assume that the recent disassembly of this part of the bike might have been a causative factor in this, so I brought the bike back to the shop and politely suggested as much; cue chippy defensiveness and evasion: 'should've brought it in right away', etc. Then during this, he tried to relocate the loose component with a screwdriver on the spot and in doing so, bent part of the component. What an exhibition of bodgery! (Bodge-it Bikes?) Thereafter refusing to look at it further. Now have had to have this sorted out at another shop at no small cost. Upshot is he's cheaper than most - if all you need is something basic sorting out and don't mind a surly and over-familiar style of service. But if you require work that's more involved or specialised and which might require some level of consultation, then I'd advise look elsewhere because here you'll get what you pay for. 'Budget' by name and budget by nature.
