Stayed for 2 nights with group of friends. Spectacular views all around! Beautiful hike of Coniston Coppermines and more from your doorstep. Clean and tidy rooms, toilets, showers. Excellent customer service. Can't ask for more. If planning to stay there, don't hesitate!
Walked up to the Copper Mine, had our packed lunch using their picnic tables and kindly allowed to use the indoor toiletsLocation: 5/5
A lovely little youth hostel in a magical location. We rented out the full place and had a brilliant time. Lots to see and do very close by - useful info and guides in the YHA
Such a lovely place in the most beautiful location. Was lovely and clean, kitchen was so well equipped, outdoor seating area was great for meals. We hired it exclusively and loved our stay here.Rooms: 5/5
Amazing location to get away from it all. Remote and tranquil. Positioned ideally for various hiking trails. Staff very friendly and helped out with advice on routes to hike and things to do in the area. Possible improvements I could suggest are clearer driving instructions as the road up to the hostel is quite obscure. Also a clearer notice of meal and order times. We missed the meal time and had to walk back down to the village for dinner.
We got to the hostel late in the evening during a downpour and so only appreciated how beautiful and secluded this place is in the morning. It's really calm and a great place to get away. The facilities are sufficient. The only reason for 4 star is that we had expected a buffet breakfast, but instead it was fixed plate. And the quality wasn't great for the hot food. I would still stay again and just make own breakfast.
Great, small hostel in an amazing location. The two members of staff were very friendly and worked incredibly hard. Clean and tidy, with good self catering facilities. Perfect spot for exploring The Old Man of Coniston. The track to the hostel isn't very good and is steep in places, but that's expected for a remote retreat.
Great welcome and super quality service at this remote and quirky hostel. I loved watching all the birds at the bird feeder. A car with decent ground clearance is needed if you're driving up the track to get there.
It's the first time I've stopped in a hostel so I don't have anything to compare it with. It's basic, but it seems to do it well and is in an amazing location nestled below the Old Man of Coniston in the old coppermines area. The place is clean, bedding was provided though there is a small charge for towels if you don't bring your own. The room seemed quite cold but the living room area was toasty warm and very comfortable after a day's walk. Breakfast was served at 8am at a large communal breakfast table. The breakfast was about £7, really tasty and good value. There's a large kitchen if you want to self cater. The bar reception desk has limited drink options and isn't open long. The nearest pub/shop/anything is 20-25 minute walk down the relatively steep dirt track into Coniston or 5mins in the car. I enjoyed it but would prefer to be based in Coniston centre to avoid the 1.2mile walk each way for food and beer at night. Dramatic location though.
Brilliant hostel. Location is beautiful, lots of history. Facilities very clean and beds comfortable. Staff are lovely too. The town is about a mile away downhill.
