Story

Thornthwaite is a 500 acre estate situated in the unspoilt Woodland Valley, explore ancient woodlands, flower meadows, and our private fishing lake. Stay in our 4 Star Gold Award Cottages or Log Cabin with stunning views of the Lakeland fells. Ideally situated for walking, cycling or relaxing, with many walks from your cottage door.

Within easy reach of the main attractions, however if you need to get away from it all and relax in a friendly atmosphere our farm is perfect.

We stayed on the Log Cabin and it was beautiful. We were welcomed and then left to get on with it as we pleased, which was just what we wanted. We had no rain during the day for 7 days which was unexpected and meant we found somewhere to go out to every day. The Log Cabin is well equipped and so peaceful to return to and we cooked there most evenings. 5 stars at least!!

Lovely quiet retreat. We stayed in the log cabin lovely throughout and beautiful scenes from the outside veranda and garden.A perfect base to venture from.Lady of the farm Jean was lovely too.We had a great time.

Set deep in the hills this place is tranquil, beautiful and secluded. All properties are set on the farm and even though it was a working farm this caused no disturbance whatsoever. Lovely breathtaking views which are worth negotiating the farm track for. The standard of the cottage was extremely high with everything you would require for a self catering facility. Even washing powder! Impeccably clean, quality furniture and high quality linens. No phone signal for EE but an excellent wifi connection making communication with the outside world possible. The whole family were welcoming and friendly. Lovely holiday and a relaxing break which I'd highly recommend
