Extremely helpful staff and great ambiance. The variety of books available is a it limited but you can reserve books from other Waltham Forest Libraries and pick them up so it’s not too bad.
No signs to Registrars. Finally figuring out that it was upstairs, was made to wait outside the toilets for 20 mins before corraling someone to give me some assistance... Distressed folks looking to register a death with some dignity made to also wait in the corridor and had to field directions to the toilets from the general public and homeless outside the library who clealry use the area for their ablutions. Dirty offices. Yuck.
Popped in to return some books for a friend. The building itself is impressive and speaks of a more affluent past, but it was wonderful to see that inside the building has been put to use to serve its community. The staff I encountered in the library were really helpful and friendly - one explained the way the book return worked and we had a laugh before I headed back out into the thronging market area.
Walthamstow library is a Grim depressing place with a foreboding atmosphere questionable facilities and hostile staff/volunteers. If you have the misfortune of venturing near this grubby modernist dumping ground for council tax the staff will assume you are homeless and sadly they have a less than progressive attitude towards those dispossessed. This is very unfortunate as the only genuinely useful service this place has to offer are relatively safe restrooms... that are covered in racist/xenophobic graffiti.
Staff were nice and helpfull - no complaints there. . So why only 2 stars? The signage throughout the building is ridiculously poor. Myself and everyone I met there struggled to find the registrar's office.
The library has expanded to accommodate more computers. The librarian was very helpful.
The library is in a very busy market area. If you are planning to arrive, it's possible best to use public transport or a taxi service, instead of your own car, as most street are resident parking permit only. The library is located opposite to Poundland. You have a wheelchair entry to the library. There is another entry next, with a reception, if you want to go to the covid vaccination centre, or the birth and death registrar.
At the moment this library is being used as a COVID-19 vaccination centre. They have the whole operation working like clockwork. Very efficient and safe. The staff have limitless patience and are totally dedicated. This facility is well capable of administering 1000s of vaccines per day. Very impressive! A lot of the staff are the library's actual people and obviously are familiar with dealing with the public.
I went to get my second jab done there this morning and was so impressed with how slick and well run it all was. Get there slightly before your booked time and you'll be placed in the appropriate queue. All the volunteers are absolutely first class and so helpful and there's loads of them! So impressed
Very nice Library, The staff are good and helpful, however, they seem to think we have all the time in the world. They take ages with each customer and I have no idea why they do the visitor parking permits and whatever nonsense. Some of us are in a hurry. They should only be scanning books, thats it. They are always telling us to use the machines and do not know how to fix problems on the computers. They don`t have enough computers
